This show is great so far. I like how there’s real conflict between the Boonboomgers over this, and I feel like it isn’t going to be solved too easily. Maybe ignored for a while, but it will probably come up again.
Also the villains are great. Mad Rex is an incredibly strong first general, and I’m pretty glad he doesn’t have the generic first general personality. He’s hot headed and short tempered in a way that manifests in a more “fast” demeanour than with similar generals, he’s funny while being an entirely serious and credible threat, and his fights have been top notch. He’s definitely dead next episode, but if the upcoming villains are this level of quality, I’m very excited to see them. And obviously this episode is pushing things in the direction of Decotrade, Itasha, and Yaiyarucar not actually being antagonists. Sentai villains never show compassion for each other unless it’s plot important. |

1) Boonboomger's heroism was unclear 2) Taiya is too weird to relate to So I kind of feel reassured that this episode addresses both of those points. Shirabe explains it, that Taiya is apparently waging their fight against the Hashiliens as a test drive for this BBG and his comrades are merely willing pawns to that end. It's a very Ishinomori twist, that Boonboomger wasn't created for heroism at all. Jou literally joined them to become a more effective hero, so of course he's super ticked off at Taiya for this revelation, while Chassirou can't offer any insight beyond, "we just have to trust Taiya". And this episode is written by Tomioka, so maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt that he's actually going somewhere with this. Quote:

Well, they are literally antagonists, that's their designated role, but if you mean they might redeem later, then yeah, I can see that. They're too complacent to take seriously as a big evil threat. Itasha creates Autos, Yarucar enlarges Autos and Decotrade.... What does he even do? I'm convinced that the Hashiliens are broke as well, since the closest thing they currently have to call a base is an alleyway with a couch in the middle. Even the Gaiark Ministers were more threatening.
