My one fear is that what makes grounded Sentai fights fun is how unrestricted the simple spandex costumes are; allowing them to flip and jump and run all over the place and exhibit a LOT of body language. A lot of that is used for humour and we've especially seen just how far they can take it in Ryusoulger and Kiramager. The mech fights however... lose that because the mechs are very blocky and bulky and heavy; there's very little manoeuvrability and there's a lot of slow, inelegant moves. It's part of why I don't like the mech parts of Sentai, but it is restricted to those sections and it does make sense to a degree for giant fights.
... bbbut now we've got those blocky heavy costumes in the grounded fights, too. And especially when we do have Zenkaiser over there who is a much more standard Sentai suit (feels weird to call him that but, you know), it's not only going to be a lot of awkward fights; it's going to be an awkward contrast between Zenkaiser impressively flipping everywhere with a lot of co-ordinated choreography while the other Zenkaigers stumble about and flail their box arms. I don't wanna be negative on this because otherwise I'm all in; I LOVE everything here and I hope Sentai keeps doing out-there stuff like this, but I am a bit fearful for the action scenes is all I'm saying. Maybe they'll pull a Hurricaneger and give them a slimmed down mode?

You're right that the fights will probably be a lot different, but I'm excited for that. We have 40-some seasons of characters jumping around and doing flips, so I'm looking forward to something a little different. If it's not good, we'll likely get another standard season after this.

The fact that ZenKaiser is human with his team consisting of robots is on-point with his Big One-inspired colors since JAKQ was also a human leader with 4 cyborg members.
His pose being Akaranger's pose, the clear mech inspirations, this is gonna be a fun season visually, at least.

What I meant was that, if the street-level fights are more like the mech fights, then that's different from the norm, right? But anyways...you could be right, we'll just have to wait and see. I, for one, am excited just to see what looks to be a huge deviation from the norm.

Love how each of them represents various points of Super Sentai history:
- White: GoRanger and JAKQ, the two Ishinomori-penned series that started it all; - Red: Zyuranger, the first series to be adapted into Power Rangers, which in turn helped introducing the brand to worldwide audience; - Yellow: Gaoranger, commemorating the brand's 25th anniversary, also the first mecha / zord heavy series; - Blue: Boukenger, the 30th anniversary series, 'nuff said, and; - Pink: Magiranger, the first series to see the rangers turn into their own mecha / zord (this might sound like a stretch, but i can't come up with any other reasons as to way it was chosen, lol) Either way, pumped up for this. Hope the show manages to keep me invested in the story and characters, as Kiramager's doing right now (and the last three series before it failed to do :x)

Zyuranger was very important for Sentai; it was the first season to really be a fantasy (and I believe the first to have a living mecha?) and was very popular in its own right, so it's not just about what its footage was used for. A lot of this is about anniversaries, yeah!

I was expecting that the suits would looks to those used by the Metal Heroes.
Also, isn't the team missing a ranger? the green one, if we go by the colors in Zenkaiser's suit

I've been thinking, if Taguchi, the main director of Ultraman Z who just did a few episodes of Sentai for the first time ever, does next year like the rumors say, this all makes sense. With robot team members, the action might be mostly on the giant scale and with Taguchi at the helm, it's gonna look amazing.
Kakuranger were the first to turn into their robots. |
