Superhero media ought to have some larger meaning and value beyond mere escapist entertainment. What's the point, otherwise? You can have comedy, but most of what Toei considers comedic in Sentai and Rider now is stupid and annoying rather than funny. I quit PR years ago: Japan simply had better quality material. I will occasionally take a peak at the latest Saban incarnations out of morbid curiosity, and wince at the bad dialogue. |

Based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere (and on what little of modern Power Rangers I’ve seen), I think the problem is more to do with the writing and acting rather than Nickelodeon’s “twenty episodes per season” rule and scheduling.
Nickelodeon obviously isn’t helpful, but―as others have said―where else could Power Rangers go? Would moving to an online streaming service help the series financial-wise? Sure, Netflix might permit more creative freedom, but would it succeed in toy sales? I think Bionichute meant GARO. ^^,,,

Sometimes I forget I'm the only person who actually likes Tokusatsu in general being goofy and fun. That's the reason why I hate Amazonz and stuff like Kiba, and why I just prefer Sentai to Kamen Rider. Its goofy and fun, which is something I need a lot of the times.
Y'all go on saying how much you want Power Rangers to be serious and then don't bother watching the episodes, I'll stay here and enjoy not-Bulk and not-Skull.

So three seasons and not four? So one Super Season and not two after this year's Super Season. Does that mean no more Super Seasons or what?

actually i hoping that saban would sell the franchise but they care about making money which is not a good thing for them because judging from how bandai is handling the toys, the toyfairs, toysrus is closing down, the ratings going down.
unless they are major changes in 2021 like saban selling the franchise and bandai gives the toy rights to another company, it's could the last season of pr. i dont see how it survives after 2021. Last edited by Sevenlima; 02-16-2018 at 04:28 AM.. |

In all likelihood...
Saban Brands made a decision to license out the toy line to another company. Bandai America runs through April 2019 and thus Saban Brands needs a guaranteed home for the product this new toy company will be making. So a 3 year deal with Nickelodeon is done primarily to bridge the year gap we're about to run in to during summer 2019 until Fall 2019 when this new toy company will have product hit the shelves. Then, for 2 years, they get to do their run on Power Rangers.

Well Garo is not really "dour" either in that it has a grim tone. Graphic, sometimes disturbing imagery, yes. Tacky nudity? Yes for Season 3; the rest of the time nude scenes tend to involve Horrors and are done in a stylistic manner, with special effects. But it's not devoid of humor, unless you're too used to Toei slapstick that anything that's not slapstick is grim in your eyes.
