I hope this does well for more official subs from Toei. I would hate to see this burn out so quickly.

Yeah I am pleased about the thing overall. I haven't really gone deep into it yet but it still looks pretty good anyway.

So, I've been scrolling through this channel occasionally to find the things I would never seek out myself. Yes, there's Jiraya, Gavan, Akumaizer 3, Kyodain - but that stuff I already know about, and while watching it is fun, there's a thrill in discovering something I have never, ever heard about before.
I found it and I kinda fell in love with it. It’s "Magical Girl Chukana Ipanema". So, I've never watched a live-action Magical Girl-show before. I would assume it is much like its anime counterpart only, well, live-action. Tuning into this I found it’s more like a sitcom really, with a strong emphasis on comedy, and boy does this show pull that off. I actually laughed out loud at this stuff; I will post a selection of my favorite scenes in picture form below. So, what’s the show about? Basically, there's an alternate dimension filled with magic, wizards and witches, all of which go to school to learn about spells and stuff. The heroine Ipanema is set to graduate, but on her ceremony she is denied that honor because... her parents have gone bankrupt, fled the magic realm and didn’t pay for her school fees. Ipanema is forced to work off that dept by the vile headmistress of the school, until she escapes to the human world to look for her parents. She comes alongside a family of a single dad and his three sons, one of which holds a pendant given to graduates of the magic school. Ipanema seeks it out and trouble arises as the headmistress chases after her. That's the basic plot, at least what I could make out from the 2 episodes available. As it turns out, this show is a sorta-sequel to another, "Magical Girl Chukana Paipai", which only ran for half a season before the lead actress dropped out. So instead of just canceling the show they ended it abruptly, started a new one and introduced a new lead character. Which connects to the other one as the first witch also lived with the same family apparently and the pendant the little boy has was hers. Gotta say though, I went into this expecting absolutely nothing and got 2 episodes of harmless, pure fun out of it. I would watch more if I could. |

Yes! Somebody else enjoyed this show. I become interested in it about a year or two ago when I found the opening on youtube and realized that Toei had a few couple episodes up on their youtube channel so I watched them. I didn't really understand what was going on since I don't understand japanese but I still found it pretty enjoyable to watch nonetheless. I hope now that the big three Toku are mostly translated and most of the Metal Hero shows are either completely translated or are actively being worked on more people will start turning their attention to translating the Toei Fushigi Comedy Series shows.
