I absolutely love Kamen Rider Fourze. I find it's heart, uniqueness, and emphasis on friendship/loyalty/trust to be ideal. I think it would make a great show to bring to the United States with an English adaption, a la Power Rangers. So how do you do it?
Gentarou was a high school transfer student who was rebellious, loud, yet very out-going and determined to befriend everyone in school. He was bullied but stood up to them and tried to befriend them. He didn't try to hide his identity as Fourze. Our English adaption hero needs to be similar, yet different. My thoughts... A high school transfer student who is quiet and keeps to himself. He's different, and the popular kids pick on him and bully him quite a bit. He keeps his cool and tells people that he has no enemies, only friends he hasn't made yet. This obviously gets him bullied some more but he never lashes out in violence, etc. He's the type of kid who helps a grandmother cross the street, or picks up something that a stranger drops, etc. He befriends our version of Kengo and Yuuki, who are basically the same as their Japanese counterparts. He overhears them talking about "monsters" and follows them to the Rabbit Hutch, which upsets our version of Kengo. Just then a monster attacks, and Kengo pulls out the Galaxy Driver, a device that focuses cosmic energy in the galaxy to turn our hero in to Power Rider Galaxy! Our hero takes it when Kengo can't use it, and transforms ("Power Rider, Power On!"?). Shun and Mia's characters are the same. JK goes from "breakdancing hip hop artist" to "social blogger gossip hound". Tomoko believes in magic (gets away from the idea of witches). Oshugi remains relatively the same. Meteor is "Power Rider Meteor". He's another transfer student who instead of being quiet and reserved is a little more loud and brash, not afraid to get in peoples' face. He was given his power by "an angel" after a ram monster attacked and he tried to stop him. The Ram monster hurt his brother, and he's determined to find the Ram monster. His identity is kept a secret at first, but when he eventually finds the Ram monster (Aries), he discovers that the Ram monster has his parents and little sister hostage. He reveals his identity to the Ram monster to plead to let them go and he agrees ... but only if he defeats Power Rider Galaxy. He betrays Power Rider Galaxy and uses his Super Meteor Finisher (Meteor Storm Punisher) to send Galaxy off in to the cosmos, to be lost forever. Kengo is able to trace Galaxy's energy signature and uses the power of a new switch (Cosmos) to bring him back. The switch is powered by the bond of their friendship (Power Rider Club, etc.) and each member has to express their true feelings towards our hero, which activates the switch and opens a portal where Galaxy returns. Before Galaxy goes with them to fight the Ram monster, he has to leave to get something for Meteor, whose identity was revealed when he sent Galaxy throughout the cosmos. The others arrive and Aries attacks them. Meteor, unable to Power On because the Winged Angel turned against him after Meteor's betrayal, fights Aries without his powers and is easily defeated. But Galaxy arrives, transforms, and activates "Power Rider Galaxy, Cosmic Mode". The rest is pretty explanatory. Dunno how the Zodiart angle works. Can't have it be teachers, etc. How would you guys make it work?!

How do you make an english adaptation? By restructuring the episodes, taking minor characters and making them more prominient in the English version and just recyling the japanese fighting footage...totally change a few of the character motivations...oh...and with GREAT backlash from the fan community, but you can't hear because of the merchandise money truck backing up...

Not sure if the Horoscopes need renaming in the concept- pretty much everybody is at least vaguely familiar with the Zodiac. Though I suspect they'd probably want to recast Libra and Scorpion so that their human actors match their perceived genders. Plus it still fits the space theme.
Why can't we keep Gamou's english counterpart as Saggitarius though? I do like the idea that Fourze has of the corrupt school administration secretly masterminding everything. |

Kickback has the right idea about how to bring it over. Now on to the matter of how to do the Horoscopes:
Aries: Have him be Meteor's friend. Instead of the Switch backfiring he turns into Aries because he's jealous of how popular his friend is. Other than that keep the need to find him as Meteor's main plot point as well as having him kidnap Meteor's family. Taurus: School wrestler with a iron will. He wants to make the school a better place but is tricked into turning into Taurus. He may be a better fighter than Yuta was but his character drive is the same as Yuta. Gemini: Have the Cygnus Switcher be Gemini as Den-O brought up. When Cygnus is defeated Virgo shows up with Cygnus's human body and tosses it in when the Resurrection Star starts to glow. He then takes over Cancer's role as recurring pain in the neck, while the scenes with him as a human feature him struggling with his light and dark sides. Cancer: Have him be a bulling jock that loves to make puns. The comic relief of the show. Leo: Sagittarius's older brother. VERY protective of him. Other than that keeps the martial arts skills and ability to use the other Horoscope Switches. Virgo: Keep Virgo as a triple agent for the club. However Tomoko's English counterpart is the Switcher, working with the designer of the Meteor Driver and M.B.U.S. Just loses the Switch when her cover is blown instead of biting the bullet. Libra: President of the debate team. Have him be the second most loyal to Sagittarius. Scorpio: Wild man biker with HUGE chip on his shoulder. Clashes with the other Horoscope members. Serves as Deker in the show. Sagittarius: Evil school counselor who was also a astronaut before getting this job. Wants all 12 Switches of the Horoscopes to reach the "Presenter". Is more active than Gamou but also somewhat clumsier. Capricorn: Not as hard rock as his Japanese counterpart, but apart from that other tracts are the same. Aquarius: Transfer student from Britain. Confuses American and British terms. She clashes with the Yuki counterpart over how much cheerfulness she has as she wants to be a astronaut too but lacks a sense of humor at first. Pisces: Basically the same as Ran's two arcs. However she uses karate instead of akido and is the older twin sister of the Haru character. |
