Oh I am so down for this game. Fingers crossed there's some sort of co-op mode where you can mow down mobs together.

The game looks genuinely fun, the Switch is region-free, AND it’s getting an English release?! I’m importing, no question. The only problem is that while I might like W a ton, I’m no OOO fan and I haven’t even seen Zero-One. I need to catch up!

Pretty sure the Z is just there to represent Zero-One in the title just like how the "M" in Kamen is an upside-down W logo and the "D" in Rider is a stylized OOO scanner.

I hope we see other Kamen Riders besides those three. This game does look cool.

This is completely random and also very interesting! It looks more ambitious than Rider games have been in a long while, even if I can't help but think Aruto accidentally walked into a game they started making in 2011 and had unfinished in a vault or something. Like Zero-One should just be Fourze? You could be flipping between all the Switches for sick combos? I've seen Mega Max; those three make a great trio!
I wonder if there even is a particularly deep reason for the choice of Riders. My instant assumption was that they managed to get those actors to do the voice-over, but the trailer immediately proved that no matter how cool this game turns out, it's already less awesome than Genealogy of Justice, which let you kick the crap out of people as actual Hiroshi Fujioka, despite not being released on Sega Saturn. Actually, if Zero-One was going to headline a game as part of a trio of Riders, this is kind of a missed opportunity to finally do a big cross-era Rider 1/Kuuga/Zero-One thing. I mean, you're already using soundalikes, right? Just go for it!

I can see how this is a bit of a strange combination of main riders, but I'm all for it. It's clear they have a story idea in-mind that makes most sense with W and OOO. And the fact that gameplay will involve mid-combat form-swapping as well as form-swapping for specific situations means these two fit best while also being iconic past riders. I could have easily seen at least Ghost and Build being a part of this as well just cause their form swapping fits the part, too.
Also glad they're keeping this contained to just a small cast. It honestly feels like a Heisei Gen plot set-up that way.

From what I've been seeing appear online apparently it's like, the entirety of the characters from W and OOO being recast. Apparently to make things less awkward. And you know that makes a lot of sense.
Cause let's be real, we could definitely get Renn Kiriyama to reprise his role as Shotaro, but we'd probably be stuck with a Recast Philip sound-alike and it would just be awkward. So the idea of recasting those two series makes a lot of sense. And the reason 01 and Aruto remained the same is likely because if they included any of the other cast members in it, they could easily get them since they're probably under contract to do stuff like that. If that makes any sense. |

I think the big reason for W and OOO really is... just that their gimmicks fit extremely well into a video game! Both of them revolve around alternate forms with very specific powers that don't get completely overshadowed by upgrades and saw a lot of iconic use in their series; and even compared to other Riders who place heavy emphasis on that like Kuuga and Den-O, W and OOO also mix and match a lot.
Right away on day 1 we've seen a form-change wheel for W that has not just his three main forms, but all 9 of his form swaps; implying that we'll see a lot of variation on the same sorts of powers and moves in an interesting way. We admittedly haven't seen anything similar for OOO yet and with his sheer amount of combos I imagine it'll just be relegated to his main non-mismatched combos (with perhaps Tajador requiring more Rider Power to be built up or something), but I imagine they could have just seen more potential in him for what sort of game they were making. Even aside from gameplay, there's a couple other factors: as already mentioned, the two are the most heavily connected to Foundation X storylines, who from the background mooks appear to at least play a large role in this game's story. Not to mention... the two are absurdly popular. W needs no introduction but while OOO is no Den-O, he still makes a lot of bank -- until Zi-O I believe he had the best-selling toyline, and when merch is made of Kamen Rider he's one of the first to get in there and his lines tend to sell extremely well to the point of eventually going all out. So-Do Chronicle was very quick to get to him after their W and Den-O lines and he was so popular they ended up making sets of the Movie forms and Birth; while apparently Tamashii placed so much faith in his Seihou SHF success that they're making all his main combos, integrating a complex combo change gimmick, making human figures and putting out re-issues. He's maybe not the first you think of but I'd argue he ranks in at least the top 5 most popular Heisei Riders, at least where profits are concerned. They do look odd at first but I think just a combination of popularity, gameplay potential and then easy connections between the two does make them a natural choice. They do look odd in lieu of Kuuga and Ichigou (and I will say it's going to look even odder when this game's going to be released when Saber will have been airing for at least a month), but there certainly seems to be very good reasons for it. ... or, uh, you could go by this officially stated reason which I'm having a lot of trouble deciphering. I guess Aruto just got REALLY inspired by what he saw of them in Grand Zi-O's summons or something!

So wait, does that mean this game is going to be canon somehow? I've yet to see Zi-O or Zero-One, so is there something I'm missing?
Also, thinking about it, I can think of a more practical reason Fourze isn't included; Space. Considering all the the theoretical combos you could pull off with all 40 of his Switches, I imagine that'd be way too much for a game that I'm assuming doesn't have the biggest budget.

I guess I just don't think of OOO as being actively popular for some reason, but that does all make sense, even if I understand Kuuga has held its popularity over the years pretty well too. The comment about the toy sales reminded me that I've heard on several occasions OOO merch was basically impossible to find at times back when it was airing because it was just selling that fast, so... yeah, I guess he's pretty popular. I definitely don't want to make it sound like I'm upset Eiji is in the game! And thanks to this article on Famitsu, while I don't have any more idea what the heck that comment about Zero-One inheriting the genealogy of justice means, I do at least know that the logo specifically highlights the subtitle as "memory of heroez" as an additional nod to OOO's presence, so that's neat!
