Gonna be my first trip to Japan. I don't have an itinerary yet, but Akihabara is definitely going to be a stop. Other than Mandarake, I have no clue where else to go.
If anybody has been there, it would be nice to know if there are any shops to either avoid or make sure I go to. |

You should try checking out the physical Jungle stores while you're there.

Yeah Jungle is a very good shop to viait as is AmiAmi's physical store in Akihabara. Yodobashi Camera is always a good place to shop for newer stuff. As for other stores there are a lot of pretty cool smaller shops whos names I don't recall at the moment.

I don't remember all the shop's names, but if you walk the main street (from Akihabara station to Suehirocho station), there's plenty of shops that offer toku merch. You might wanna go inside though because they mostly keep toku stuff on the upper floors and you mostly see anime merch in the window. Some of them do have signs with toku images on certain occasions, so that's always something to look for. Also, there is one smaller shop with older toku merch that also has some stuff on display from the outside, but it's like really, really small.
The bigger electronic shops also tend to have merch in the upper floors, especially the one next to the Mister Donut (I think that was Yodabashi camera), but their offer shrunk quite significantly over the last year. I generelly recommend to take one day or half a day just for strolling around looking for shops that offer what you want. |

It's kind of hard to just list all the shops in akiba, but the best way really is to just walk back and forth a few times and check out all the alleys. The madarake complex and jungle are the two big ones, but theres toooooooons of smaller shops. Don't limit yourself to just Akiba though, Nakano Broadway is where the flagship Mandarake store is along with lots of other smaller shops. Ikebukero also has the flagship Animate store and Pokemon Center as well.

Also all big electronics shops like yamada denki, bic camera and yodobashi camera wil have a toy floor. The first building you see as you exit akiba station should be radio kaikani think, its a multi floor building with a lot of small shops inside, i think heres a volks shop inside. Theres also a kaiyodo shop in akiba worth checking out too.
