I can't believe SHM is releasing another Anime Goji so soon after they just released the first SHM Goji. It looks almost exactly the same too, like a repaint within the same year? Crazy.

I have very little faith in the sequel because the first one was pretty bad. I'll check it out if reviews are decent.
edit: watched the trailer, it looks just as boring as the first one.

So MG was scaled to fight the smaller Godzilla. We saw the supersized Godzilla at the end of the movie. The SHMA reisdue - we see just how large it is in comparison. I think there is no way the people can gather enough building material to build a new MG that will be big enough.

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle was terrible. I haven't felt this angry at a Godzilla movie in a very long time. I can easily put this movie as one of the worst Godzilla movies in the franchise next to Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, Godzilla 1998, Godzilla: Final Wars, etc.

First one was interesting.
Second one I liked some of the commentary and other aspects of the city. Plus love the story build and character drive they are building on as they expand different things. Mecha-G and the Vultures were more fun than expected, and I like this approach for Mecha-G. It was something new and really fitting and made it feel like it fits the redesign's more spiny/skeletal aspects. Third one looks like what'll pull it all together. Can't wait to see it there. Those little seeds planted in 2 really got the hype going for me on what Godzilla Earth really is and has been preparing for, and maybe even may have some basis in similar origins as the big bad for 3 that was teased in 2. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story goes. Would definitely rate it up there as one of the more unique and interesting new interpretations. Though I do love me some good Kaiju throwdowns like in Final Wars. But glad to see them exploring the wider range of story possibilities with things like this and Shin. |

I made a gif of my favorite moment in Anime Godzilla part 2..
notice it's like a 2 second clip? hahahaha That was my favorite part and probably the only part I'll actually remember 2 months from now. I still think MechaG was incredibly disappointing and not a good design. It was just a flying thing, not a MechaG at all. I kept waiting for the actual MechaG to show up and fight Godzilla,..which never happened. |

I may consider it to be the second worst Godzilla movie next to Godzilla 1998. At least Final Wars, Space Godzilla, All Monsters Attack and Godzilla Raids Again had stuff happening and had somewhat good characters in them. All Monsters Attack may have too much stock footage, but I had more fun by sitting through that movie.

The flying things were new/altered mechs called Vultures. As in "carrion birds built that thrived by feeding on Mecha-G". Only one part survived of mecha-G into that era. The story is also what sets up part 3. That's what a large chunk of the film was about. That film is where we're going to get the big Kaiju throw down. It's all been building up to that story-wise. Why the aliens came to help Earth, and everything else. Now part 3 on the other hand should have some flipping awesome stuff too. But the story itself was focused on what we saw on the human level interactions to prepare for that and follow the various stages of 'monster development' for this 'monster planet' and explore what that means at every level. Including how Battle City fits into that. And the vulture scenes were really cool too. There's also some other little subtle things as shown with the tribe on planet too that explore some other themes about how this planet isn't as toxic as the off-worlders may think. |

Calling it one of the worst Godzilla movie seems terribly disingenuous. I mean, you're welcome to your opinion, but even the most ardent G-fan will attest there are some real stinkers in the bunch (whichever those be for you). I personally am of two minds about the trilogy thus far. On one hand, as a lifelong liver of giant monster movies and all their eccentricities, these movies aren't satisfying the itch to see a fun monster mash as much as I thought they would. On the other hand, the sci-fi lover in me revels in the world they've created and the ideas and themes at play here. I can't remember the last time before Shin and Colossal a giant monster movie really tried to be anything more than a big smash-up. I think that's just as valuable as the alternative, honestly. I'm not saying the two can't co-exist, but I'll take well thought-out science fiction with actual themes with maybe less than the desired monster action over stock footage filled nonsense or Pacific Rim Uprising-like empty spectacle any day. Not that pure spectacle isn't great sometimes, but you need your vegetables sometimes too, right? =)
TLDR; I enjoyed the first two films, even if they're not perfect, and look forward to the third. If you don't like them, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy them, but at least you have the awesome-looking Legendary 'King if the Monsters' to look forward to! ^_^ |
