Discuss and post pics of Gridman and/or Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad toys here. I think for mid 90's toys they were done VERY WELL. I stupidly passed on the Playmates releases back in 94 and if I could go back in time, I would have bought them. Even the regular Gridman/Servo 10" figure was awesome.
Now the V-crotch figures were all disappointing, but the bigger ones were awesome. Post away!

Repost from Tfw2005 but relevant.
Thought I'd post these pics up since they're pretty rare toys. Kabaya is a company that specialises in making cheap toys that come with a piece of candy. They can be either original characters or licensed characters like Transformers and Braves. One of their licensed lines is from Denkou Chojin (Electronic Superhuman) Gridman. This line of candy toy comes in a set of 3. Each box shows a pic of Gridman or one of his upgrades. But weirdly it does not show any pics of the toys. The toys come unassembled. Set 1 contains the Thunder Jet and God tank. Set 2 contains Gridman himself, Twin Driller and Dyna Fighter. And set 3 contains the King Jet. Gridman himself is rather plain. He has articulation at his shoulders, elbows (inwards) and hips. Not a whole lot. He comes with his sword (one piece). He cant really hold the Dyna Fighter as a cannon since it causes him to fall over. This is the best he can do... Thunder Jet, God Tank and Twin Driller together. Pretty standard build. Like in Super Sentai, these three vehicles can combine together. The drill tips on Twin Driller have to be removed in order to combine... Combined they form God Zenon who can support Gridman in times of need. Again minimal articulation. Shoulders (outward as well as forward), hips (outward again) and head (kind small so not really practicall to move it). The transformation is pretty accurate to the DX toy. God Zenon with Gridman. Instead of ending the combination there, God Zennon can also link up with Gridman too. This time two small 'connectors' are need to connect Gridman to the God Tank. Combined they form Gattai Choujin (Combination Super God) Thunder Gridman. What Gridman had for articulation is what Thunder Gridman has. Except very restricted due to the new armor. Interestingly Thunder Gridman's face isnt molded in. They just give him a HUGE visor piece with a hole under it to see Gridman's faceplate. Except you can't see it because of the red plastic being so bright. Next is King Jet and Dyna Fighter. King Jet is the biggest vehicle of the 5 and takes the longest time to build. They can combine together to form the Dragon Fortress. Just adds two tail find at the back... Dragon Fortress can then transform into the Dyna Dragon. More parts need removing to transform. Dyna Dragon has surprising amounts of articultion. His hips and knees move, head, and his arms (three joints each). Gridman with Dyna Dragon. Combining Dyna Dragon and Gridman forms Gattai Ryutei (Combination Dragon Emperor) King Gridman. Slightly Taller than Thunder Gridman and less chunkier because of how the parts do not cover him as much as Thunder Gridman's. Gridman with both God Zenon and Dyna Dragon. DX and Kabaya comparisons. So pretty cool. Not really worth the price I paid (at least it wasnt Yahoo prices) But need small versions of Gridman. Last edited by Roanstalker; 03-17-2013 at 05:57 PM.. |

Awesome review. I saw a set of these on Mandarake recently (at way more than I'd ever pay). I've got all the Superhuman Syber-Squad DX figures, but appreciate old Kabaya Gum figures. It looks like these guys, like Transformers, strive to remain as close as possible in functionality to the original figures.. unlike new Kabaya Gum that take a lot of artist license to simplify the Transformers.

Thanks for the pics and info Roanstalker, I like the look of the DX toys a lot. Is the Thunder guy that Gridman combines with, fully articulated? Like can the legs move forward?

Thanks . And Nope. His legs can only articulate outwards (for combined mode) and his arms have outward shoulder and forward articulation. A shame but it would be pretty tough to articulate his legs due to the way his legs transform and drills attach.
Seeing the recent King Gridman Ultra Act figure makes me want to dig out these toys again. Last edited by Roanstalker; 03-23-2013 at 01:56 AM.. |

With full articulation they would be good to go right about now. Did Bandai make them? I know Playmates brought them over but I wasn't sure who the original company was.

What the hell? What a tease! That thunder guy looks like he is sculpted to be fully articulated!

I know Playmates brought them over but I wasn't sure who the original company was. For Articulation Gridman himself is already pretty well articulated. So combining him gives him ok articulation. Problem is the balance. King Gridman is way too top heavy and is prone to falling on his arse. I agree that they've aged quite well. This was originally a Takara made toy. So you can see why this turned out so good. They did make Braves and transformers after all haha. |

By Thunder Guy you're talking about the 3 vehicle combiner/Optimus Prime look a like right?

Interesting enough...they also made Samurai Troopers Yoroiden toys which Playmates brought over a year after Cyber Squad as Ronin Warriors!

Btw theres another toy line made by Takara in a similar vain at the time but with smaller toys callled Kikou Keisatsu (Armoured Police) Metal Jack with humanoid figures that combine with vehicles/animals/robots to become robots. Note how Red Jack Armour's face looks kinda like Gridman's. Especially in the box art. Last edited by Roanstalker; 03-24-2013 at 04:26 PM.. |

I remember the Samurai Trooper toy line was kinda weird. Rather than fully posable figures they are some weird spring joint gimmick make the characters look really bloated. The only one I had from that toyline was the power up Ryo.

The guy on left looks like Roadbuster from Transformers. BTW for the big Syber Squad figures, did Servo have grey weapons on a tree or blue? If so, I know of a place that sells some repaints MISB(like Amp and a few other guys) for $50-60+. Are those good prices?
