I don't think there'll be a sequel, it's possibly that Paramount would make a proper adaptation than make a follow up from the 2017 version.

I want a soft reboot, as in, make it a sequel to the 2017 movie with the same cast. But completely different suit and megazord designs that stays closer to the source material.
I've accepted the suits even though they could be better, but the MegaZord? Yeah redesign the shit outta it. It still looks unpleasant. Maybe with Bumblebee being received well they might wanna do a design that's more faithful.

It's possible this hypothetical movie could be the supposed reunion movie ?

I hope they do an entire recast, get new writers, new producers and start over. The entire first movie was a train wreck IMO. You don't even see them in suit until the VERY end of the movie. The mecha were barely used, and the Megazord looked awful. The CGI ugliness of the MMPR movie was better looking.

I don't want a reboot because the last movie is only two years old and I'm not sure what they can do with the story without rehashing the MMPR storyline again. The first movie was a pretty decent movie and better than the original MMPR show in my opinion.

Iirc GI Joe did it with their Retaliation movie. The Rise of Cobra is nothing like GI Joe and too futuristic, but the second one is more akin to what GI Joe is. That is what I'm hoping here.

Yep. The Cobra Commander design in that second movie was awesome.

Yeah, but too bad he was useless in that movie. I'm not even a fan of the GI Joe series and even I hated that movie.

So that'll likely get covered. As for the suits, that's under debate, because they do need to look more like Eltar influences and alien, but also the suits do adapt to the wearer over time too. So I expect both will evolve some. Though the megazord will drastically change(though the basic Layout may not) while the suits will likely only be minor adjustments. If it's a sequel at least. Including how the nanites were inspired by the spores in the GI Joe animated movie itself too. Both movies had heavy toon draws that fans often ignore, but it does actively line up to the things mentioned about continuity in the toons for character history. ROC was more about how they became those characters, whereas Retaliation is how they are those characters now including Cobra getting his more famous silver mask as the much more advanced version of the ventilator like what the toon implied happened. Serialized fiction for general audiences have to setup characters and history. While I get that fans want the gi joe they know as they left off of it from the toon or comics, it does have to start somewhere and explore it from there for general audiences to build to that point. Because of general audiences, we can't simply 'start where the toon left off' or even start where the toon started from. Only in select cases is that possible like Batman, Superman and Spider-man where their origins have been told in media form non-stop with minimal to no changes across the eras. GI joe and other licenses don't have that kind of presence and have to start their stories from the beginning to set up the rest. So areas that constantly scream reboot, are really accidentally begging for that origin story for general audiences over and over again. Which blocks better content and better box office draws. Ditto, and same with wider audiences. That film is where the big bucks are and box office draw. Though some minor changes of course.
