actor Darce Montgomery, who played Jason in the 2017 PR film, has stated that he & the remaining cast have not been asked to return.
The Lionsgate Rangers are officially over, for better or worse. https://www.powerrangersnow.com/hasb...rs-movie-cast/ |

Eh, I'm not surprised. The movie got mixed reviews and did poorly at the box office.

Good. Very very good news. The 2017 film was just maligned by so many delays and behind the scenes issues. I do not like that film, I make no secret of that pretty much any chance I get. Even putting aside my distaste, it was a very poorly received film. And that really showed in both it's critical and commercial failures. Saban banked on that film to grow the franchise, spawning a series of films. But it was such a loss that he immediately began shopping the brand around which culminated in selling to Hasbro.
At this point no one should have expected Hasbro to try and move forward with that particular film or it's characters for a couple reasons. 1, the afformentioned commercial & critical failure. It was a box office bomb and while it is loved by it's fans, it was maligned by many who could not form a connection with the film, it's characters, or it's bizarre design choices. 2, Lionsgate. While Hasbro could probably make some arrangements with them, they ultimately own that film property and it's characters. Hasbro wants to create their own thing, not piggyback off of something they don't physically own, and that wasn't successful in the first place. Striking out on their own with a brand new film is likely the only and best option, and one I greatly welcome. I so wanted to be excited for the PR17 film, I wanted it to be a success. But it takes a good film to be successful. While Hasbro is known for some so so TMNT films and derisive Transformers movies, I believe their experiences and the cautionary tale of the '17 movie properly set them up for success with a fresh start.

Honestly? The only good thing about the movie are the cast and that's pretty much the only reason we're sad this has ended. Even inside the fandom not everyone has fully accepted the designs. Sure, the suits may have grown to us, but the Megazord is still an ugly abomination.
As for the movie itself, honestly it could've been a bit better. Audiences doesn't like the fact that they only suited up for the third act, which could've been fixed by having the second act be about them trying to master the powers while wearing the suits. Ironically people criticized that the actual Power Rangers part was the worst part of the movie. Hasbro obviously wanted to start fresh. After all, the 2017 movie was made to revitalize the franchise, yet till this day Power Rangers remains a joke to casual audiences. If Hasbro is rebooting MMPR again, hopefully the designs stay closer to the original, and while this may be impossible, I do hope they drew inspirations from Sentai itself. Hell even Japan complained that it isn't Sentai lol. At the very least, the lead actors got their bright future. Hell one of them is a potential MCU lead and that's saying something.

I had a "love-hate/hate-love" with the PR17 (as Den-O refers to it as).
I saw possibilities in addition to the "NOT-MY-PR" sensibility. I have my concerns with PR17 being so slighted by Hasbro, but as everyone has said, it isn't surprising. The Twitter Feed for PowerRangersNow (www.powerrangersnow.com) is also something to check in on regarding this, because the fandom apparently took notice...which isn't all that surprising! However, I don't view this as a total loss either, because the we are essentially in the days of the P.R. Multiverse, and if the fan-reaction is strong enough, then perhaps, one day when Hasbro starts something that works, maybe we can do some dimension-hopping and either supplant Hasbro's Movie Rangers into the World of the '17 or the PR17 can hop over to the Hasbro "Movie-Verse"! If you don't like the designs of the PR17, then bring that cast back in a more refined format. Remember, the context of that movie had the team using what was essentially "recycled crap" from Zordon-17's OG Ranger Team! Who's to say that Neo-Jason didn't come back for the Power-Sword-17, lose it in battle, and have Billy design something totally new for the team to use, including new suits and redesigned Zords? I don't see this as a "total, complete, unwavering, absolute" final answer! It's not a total defeat! An unchanging fact remains: That movie did HAPPEN! We see it everyday with Legacy Wars Mobile Game...a game which also did a crossover with Street Fighter...and I would be willing to bet that there are some people who would like to see a Hasbro-Capcom collaboration with Ryu-Ranger (no relation to Dairanger Red)! To do a live-action/animated/comic crossover, both Hasbro and Capcom would have to acknowledge that the Ryu-Ranger form was first introduced in Legacy Wars...and that game was made with the intent of advertising the franchise with PR17 taking center stage! No matter what Hasbro does with the official canon, we can always remember, and always hope. |

Huh I guess contrary to some people here I actually liked the PR17 stuff.
I liked the more "realistic" take on Power Rangers, instead of being tied down by excessively silly japanese footage it could do it's own thing. It wasn't 6 Teenagers who were able to go to school, invent a flying car, teach classes, have part time jobs while saving the world and having a social life. I liked that it was 5 teenagers with problems that got roped into doing this, they weren't super human out of the suits and felt pretty damn relatable. I can fully understand that it wasn't some people's cup of tea, the suit designs weren't mine either. but to me I dunno I saw it as fun more grounded take on Power Rangers and was willing to see it develop. Oh well! |

I liked the movie, but more as its own interesting individual thing. Didn't need a sequel.

Nah, I agree that I enjoyed myself watching the 2017 movie.
Granted, I only watched it once, but I was fully engaged and enjoyed what story it did tell, even if it was simplistic. It's by no means and amazing film and definitely has its problems, but it's charming enough in its own way. Sucks it won't be continued (Add another dead movie series where the first film ends on an unfulfilled cliffhanger to the pile), but I welcome anything Hasbro tries to do. Would love to see an animated film or them trying a higher budget US-original film using the Sentai suits. |

While I enjoyed certain aspects after seeing it such as the main cast, does not change the fact that it was mediocre so fine by me as long as they give us better looking suits that dont look like melted down Ironman suits and zords that dont look like the offspring of a xenomorph and Michael Bay's dinobots from one of the Transformers movies.
