A new foe with the ability to create copies is unleashed, and duplicates of Kaito and Zox are released. Which is the real hero?

Welcome back, Super Hero Time!
"Bioman Gear" sounds kind of weird when you think about it, huh? They fought Gear, now they are a Gear. Too bad there was no Zenryoku Zenkai Zenkaiger flute version. Zenkaiju Oh's debut is the most heroic example of a giant rampaging monster destroying (evil!) empty buildings and bridges I've ever seen and it was awesome! So much firepower! Komura is never going to let Touma live down that gymnastics episode. Copykaizer and Fauxkaizer photobombing the roll call was great, especially with the logo attacking Copykaizer to get him out the scene. Ijirude seems to be on to Stacey about the origin of the Zenkaiju Gear. We might be learning more about Kaito's parents soon!

I don't know why but I really enjoyed the callback to the dance battle. Hell I didn't think the dancing could get more ridiculous but somehow it did in the course of one episode.

Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop!
A fun episode. I loved seeing ZenKaijuOh just mow down buildings. Part of me was hoping we'd even get a call back to Dragon Caesar's rampage with them chomping down on a red and white colored pipe This role call interruption was brilliant, and I just adored Copy Zenkaiser sneaking in to the group pose. Bioman's gear was underwhelming, with just a group laser to short circuit the enemy (After they already beat his copy power by magicking away his tuner), but I guess I can't expect them all to be on par with Jetman. This episode was just a delight! I also appreciated the little Lupinranger homage, too!

Definitely had its moments, however...
- Seems a little odd that the public and police are onboard with who the Zenkaiger are and they aren't abusing or misusing that knowledge. Wonder if this is like Go-Onger, in that the police don't have the official go-ahead to do anything about Tojitendo and they just let the Zenkaiger take care of it instead! - The fact that Zenkaijuoh is an homage to V-Rex and Dragon Caesar, it reminds one of "Forever Red" when Eric said that the Q-Rex could eat the Dragonzord for lunch! - Love the building destruction that's not actually building destruction! It's a nice little flip on the norm. - The finisher didn't thrill me all that much. It felt like a cover by the writers/editors who must have been saying during the conception stage "Have them separate and slash-blast the enemy to death cause nothing we come up with is working!" - Really hope that one day they show exactly what happened when Flint rummaged through Ijirude's crap for information and material cause Ijirude's really got a bone to pick with Flint about it! It's almost like Ijirude's afraid that Flint may have found something important. Hmm... |

The Kaijuoh fight was badass, just wrecking everything in site, and I was surprised it can run so fast, you'd think the suit would be hard to move around in.
Next episode, the next step into Gaon's Kikainoid prejudice arc. |

Man, hard to believe I managed to last a week without this show when this is the kind of quality it comes back with. Which is to say, you know, the usual quality, but that's exactly what I'm getting at here – it's still crazy to me that Zenkaiger is a series where I can legitimately take episodes this good for granted, because they're seriously that common. Right away, the concept for this plot is... er, well, I mean, I can say it's fantastic, or great, or super fun, or whatever else, but in a cruel twist of irony, I'm not sure I can phrase this thought in a way that isn't just a copy of something I've said before about the plots in this show! ...Let's just go with "super fun" anyway, then. Evil doppelgangers of the heroes is a concept that almost always makes for some entertaining scenarios, and naturally, Koumura's stellar scenario takes full advantage of that. The specific bent of knockoff Kaito and Zox as being obnoxious hooligans rather than any sort of remotely grim villains was but one of the smart choices made here. These guys are a riot... especially when they're literally rioting! There's not a second of their antics I didn't adore, whether they were violently shooting up jewelry stores, making sneaky shout-outs to one of my favorite Sentai, or blessing us with the latest piece of the Collection... of clever twists on the team's roll call! Honestly, I might go so far as to say they had better chemistry together than the real deals did. Yes, I liked these two goons so much, I'm finding it hard to bid them adieu! And then of course having the monster running around making all these evil twins be a literal copy machine who gets defeated in part because he runs out of toner is, uh... I've definitely used "genius" a lot before with this show too, haven't I? It really is though! One other bit of writing I felt was especially clever was how through both Yatsude and Kaito, the show takes time out to attach specific weight to the idea of the fake Kaito using a Geartlinger to commit crimes, in stark contrast to how Zox is bothered simply by the usual issue in plots like this of someone running around with his face. It's just a great little moment for each of those characters; it's heartwarming how sentimental they are about like, the wishes behind the creations of Kaito's parents, and I always appreciate when the toys in a merchandise-driven toku show are made to feel like something grander in the narrative. Beyond that, everything in this plot is rock solid, even if I have less to say about it. Despite what I said a few paragraphs back, it was pretty neat seeing Kaito and Zox coming together as a bit of a team, and it was even nicer that the Kikainoids didn't feel shoved off to the side to make way for that. (That toner joke only happens because of Magine! That's how you know she's the best!) There are some other small concepts in there I thought were really interesting, as well, between Flint apparently being actively dreaded by the villains, and the way Kaito getting caught by the police plays out. I'd kind of assume that would be some big dilemma, and while it DOES end with the obligatory breakout courtesy of a certain showy outlaw, the actual tone between Kaito and that cop is just like... mutual understanding and sympathy? It's a weirdly non-stereotypical choice to make, and I feel like I'm only sort of grasping some deeper motivation behind writing it that way, but it fits with the idea that the show has presented here and there that the team are very much popular with the public as like, the Friendly Neighborhood Zenkaigers, and I dig that idea so much. Great episode all around; I got this far in and only just now remembered I was supposed to mention how insanely adorable the idea of the decor on the robot set joining the fight is! It's at once a very budget-conscious concept and also genuinely a clever twist. And uh, it feels a lot less low-budget once they all start getting violently destroyed by a huge mechanical dinosaur! That's a level of physical, practical destruction I don't think you see too often in Super Sentai, and it made for a heck of a fitting debut for a new big monster of a robot.

Fun fact! The police officer was actually played by Zenkaiser's suit actor, Masashi Takada. This is actually the second time said suit actor's had a scene like this, since he was also Patren 1, and had a scene as a police officer with a child Keiichiro. So the reason they're so friendly is that he's literally just supporting himself.

That Zenkaiju-oh debut was great. A heroic example of a kaiju trashing a city full of villainous buildings.
