This is an interesting video, taking a closer look at "Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog" with a new perspective on the Irish mythology that partially inspired the story.

I was a bit lucky an had a book of mythology that was full of eastern European legends as a kid, it even had the final saga of Beaowulf. From what I remember from that and this shows base Idea I can think of a good re imagining of the show. Basically swap the sides so that the queen is good and is after years of torment from both the fomorians and Connor she decided to go on the offense. A group of young knights are sent scouting and end up saving (or being saved by) a druid from an attack by a fomori. In thanks (or with some gods guidance or prophecy) he sends them to find artifacts of legend that can help with the monsters and the war which lead them to gaining the weapons and armor. The fairies would take a more wildcard roll in the story as they are mostly tricksters and monsters in celtic myth. For Kiju sized battles the knights would transform into various mythical beasts that are reflected in there armor. Red becomes a dragon, blue becomes a sea serpent, white becomes a griffin, and brown...I had to dig because I couldn't think of one and still can seem to find a creature of stone so I can only thing of some sort of golem or ent like creature.. Other figures of myth could take on small arcs to assist the main heroes. I think with the three way fight it would make it more interesting as it creates the division of priority as the knights would be pulled between monsters and the war.
