Ah, SH Figuarts Kamen Rider Gai. The most elusive of the Ryuki Figuarts. A Tamashii Web exclusive, and apparently the one with the lowest production numbers, Gai commands an unbelievably high price on the aftermarket.
Is the rarity and high price justified by the figure? Is the value of the ten hands, five Advent Cards, and Strike Vent (and figure) equal to the pain this figure will bring to your wallet? Let's face it, Figuarts Gai the weakest entry in the Ryuki line. He has the fewest accessories, and has the most ridiculous aftermarket value, and if you don't already have him, you're better off skipping him.
But, he's a beautiful figure (yes, I have said this about every figure in the line, and I will continue to do so), and if you're a crazy person like me, I mean, a completist like me, then you need him. Gai's armor is very much meant to invoke a knight in armor of old, it's sculpted with many overlapping plates, and the silver and gunmetal gray metallic paint finish off that look. He's sorta bland by himself, in a monochromatic way, but on a shelf with the other, many colored, Ryuki Figuarts, he stands out in his own way. As for accessories, Gai has a lot of hands, and his Strike Vent. And that's it. Granted, he didn't use anything else in the show, but that he doesn't even include a Tamashii stage to soften the blow of his high price, or effect parts or anything. The value is just not there with this guy. I do like the design, especially the red horn on his left shoulder, and of course the execution of the figure itself is good, but the extreme rarity of the figure, the severe lack of accessories to lessen the impact of the high price on the secondary market make Figuarts Kamen Rider Gai and extremely skippable figure. Even at the relatively low price I paid for him ($85), I don't recommend him to anyone but hardcore Ryuki fans, or completists. |

Are the Figmas in scale with Figuarts? You could get one of those as an alternative.

They're roughly in scale (Figmas are just a little bit shorter), so that's what I did. I got a few of the Figuarts exclusives in Figma form and they look great with the others. And in Gai's case, $10 >>> $100+.

Someone has to take a picture of KyoryuRed with his Trex fist on punching Gai with the Rhino fist on.

I got Figma Gai, thinking I'd never find the SHF at a price I would be willing to pay, and then by a stroke of luck, got this one just a week or two after getting the Figma.
Frankly, I was quite disappointed by the figma, the body suit color doesn't match the Figuarts, I found the articulation to not be quite as good, and since he was smaller, he didnt look right. Mostly I think he felt too thin compared to the others. So I sold it and paid a lot for the Figuarts. I'm glad I did, but I do think most others will be happy with the Figma. Plus it was $15 on Mandarake, and that is a MUCH better price. But it didn't work for me. |

Added a really crappy picture of the Figuarts with the Figma. Figma is on the left, Figuarts on the right. You can tell the two apart by the Figma having a dark grey suit, while the Figuarts is black, and the Figma has no toe joint (and the ankles aren't nearly as articulated, if I recall).
They're not all that different, and for most people the Figma should be fine. But the Figuarts IS better. And a lot more expensive. Also added a few of pics of Gai with other Ryuki figures. |

Eh, he looks close enough to me. I'd definitely go for the Figma for price and the differences aren't major, especially for Gai because look at him, he's not got much going for him anyways. If it was one of this others, like Ouja, probably buy the Figuart
