I never saw Jonah Hex, but now I'm rather curious as to how bad it is.

Megan Fox is in it. And she was more interesting in the Transformers movies than she is in Jonah Hex.

Just saw the Hobbit for the first time. Very good movie. Never read the book so I'm not sure if there are any adaptation controversies I should be wary of but any movie where the main focus is on Dwarves rather than Human or Elves is a good thing to me! Thorin is pretty badass and yet utterly...mortal.
Read the book. It's a quick read and more focused. The movies are just added a ton of things from other works of Tolkien. Not bad, just long. The Hobbit was my favorite book as a kid. Probably a lot of the reason I love dwarves and the culture of building things that they have. |

I found the Hobbit painful. I loved the book, but it really did feel like they were filming one sentence for every minute of screentime, bloating the film up with random unconnected stuff from the Unfinished Tales. I mean there was still loads of cool action and some really cool mythology, but I'm more of an Urban Fantasy guy, than a swords and sorcery fantasy guy, so I just couldn't handle just how slow this film was.

The Hobbit was the second best movie of last year and Desolation of Smaug is going to be the best movie of the year when it comes out.
Anyway, The World's End is down right hilarious. If you loved Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, this is an absolute must see! The jokes are hysterical, the plot is fun and unique, and it just screams out to Sci-Fi movies of old. ON the negative side though, the movie does take a while to start moving, and while it is nice to build up the plot, it could have shaved off about 5-10 minutes from the first half of the movie. Other than that though, no complaints and this is easily the best movie of the year thus far! I give it a 9.5/10. |

I saw The World's End yesterday and I was actually a little disappointed with it. I felt the film was lacking the 'every man' quality some of the characters in the other movies had. With so many primary characters none of them seem to really get fleshed out all that well or become terribly likable. The archetypes that are spelled out in the beginning pretty much settle it for character development, except for some Frost and Pegg bits. They aren't all that relatable and the main character isn't that likable. I pity him, but I would neither enjoy his company or want to be like him.
Everyone being such proficient fighters felt weird, too. The martial skills of the characters seemed out of place in the context of who they were and it tended to drag me out of the fight scenes. Part of the epilogue felt out of place as well, especially considering some of the themes of the climax (which I will refrain from spoiling). All in all, I felt this really lacked the heart that both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz had. It felt more like Scott Pilgrim Edgar Wright than Shaun/Hot Fuzz Edgar Wright. Some people will no doubt love it, and apparently do, and I know at least one of my friends will call it The Dark Knight of Wright/Pegg/Frost films, but it didn't really click with me. |

Princess and the Frog is awesome. Disney's best movie since The Lion King.
Anyway, we just watched Paranorman and it was down right hilarious. Great movie, wish I had gone to see it in theaters. I give it an 8. |

I would say my favourite of 2012 was Lawless, but then with so many greats coming out last year like Looper, The Grey, Rise of the Guardians and Paranorman it's hard for me to pick just one.
