Ideally what I'd like is for them to have Junko Komura at least skim the scripts with the Zenkaigers in it and let her make small changes, that would be nice (but also won't happen and is totally wishful thinking) While maybe it's better in other shows hes secondary written, I'm a big fan of Kamen Rider Ryuki, but in that show it was always super apparent whenever Inoue was writing an episode, because the cast would often act differently, sometimes they'd be just a bit off, but other times they'd be wildly out of character, at least from my perspective, I would almost always ID an Inoue episode in the first five minutes without ever checking the wiki first So that doesn't fill me with confidence that he can keep them in character effectively, but idk maybe he's better at that than he was nearly 20 years ago lol As a fun anecdote, when I showd my wife Ryuki for the first time occasionally she'd go "wow, this person is really out of character" or "omg this is so sexist", and without fail every single time she'd say smth like that it was an inoue episode. I think there were only like 2 inoue episodes where that didn't happen |

Inoue is definitely the writer where it feels most apparent to me that the characters are not being written by the same guy. Some of the most obvious examples are Ryuki and Hibiki, but in stuff like Kamen Rider 1 and Rider Time he really just turned the casts of Ghost and Zi-O into something completely different. Even when he's writing something that's good and I love it, like his legendary Taiyaki Master episodes in Blade; the feel of the characters is still very off. I feel this might be a consequence of his being a writer who can get out scripts very fast (it's one of the reasons Toei hired him so much in the 2000s, and infamously it's down to his fast script writing that Kuuga even exists), so he probably doesn't sit down to understand the others' characters that well.
Thaaat said, if my theory there holds up? If he's being tasked with writing an entire season that has very specific ties to the previous one, rather than a quick gig like half a movie or a couple episodes or a TTFC special? I could see him being made to be more familiar with Zenkaiger's cast, or at least have close supervision by Komura and/or Shirakura.

Shirakura staying on as a producer for DonBrothers gives me some hope, but I also don't get the impression that Shirakura ever reined in Inoue all that much so I'm not really sure (like he also produced Ryuki and Hibiki, and seemingly just let Inoue do it his own way whenever he had the reigns). I guess it might depend on how much of the Zenkaiger cast's personality came from Shirakura, if he helped with their characterization a lot I could see him fighting to keep them in character, but if that was mostly Komura then idk Fingers crossed in any case Last edited by TheJaz; 12-30-2021 at 06:28 PM.. |

From what we know, the Zenkaigers' appearance in Donbrothers does seem to border cameos -- I get the feeling it's similar to Geed in Z, or at best Decade in Zi-O. It'll just be a handful of episodes so I can easily see supervision in those ones.
And we know Shirakura is producing this season just like he did with Zenkaiger, so no matter how large the Zenkaigers' involvement; I'm sure he would do some supervision too

This isn't the first sequel to be written by Inoue. His first Rider show was Agito, which was technically a sequel to Kuuga, which was written by Arakawa, who was Komura's mentor, so this kind of goes around in a circle. Of course, this sequel is going to be a lot more connected to its predecessor, even more than Sun Vulcan was to Denjiman with Queen Hedrian, since Zenkaizer Black and Juran are apparently going to be recurring characters for a while and the Avatarou Gears are a permanent reminder of their connection.
While I will admit that Inoue can sometimes, usually for the sake of landing a joke, bend a character in to doing something they generally wouldn't, I think he has a lot more self-control than Sanjo, who can't even write his own characters consistently. Furthermore, I think Inoue has learned that his habit of taking liberties with the characters can actually be used as an asset, like all those different Sougos from Zi-O VS Decade and Akari referring to Mayu as both "Tachibana-san" and "Mayu-chan" in Kamen Rider 1, after she hypocritically berated Takeru for using "chan". With Zenkaiger having a lot of focus on alternate worlds, I wonder if this Zenkaizer Black is even the same Kaito, or rather Inoue's Kaito. Anyway, something else I noticed in the picture with Don Momotarou, Zenkaizer and Don Zenkai Oh is that Zenkaizer is spelled as "Zenkaiser" like how Over-Time does it, despite being romanized as Zenkaizer literally everywhere else. I guess Toei wants to encourage people to make their own choice like they did for Balon/"Baron", instead of declaring only one official. Not like most people have been paying attention to official romanizations though. It's especially humorous when Hakaizer debuts with HAKAIZER written in the background while the subs are all like: Hakaiser!

This might sound dumb, but who else thinks Stacey is gonna become Zenkaiser Black? He certainly likes Kaito's home life, likely preferring it to his own with Tojitendo, and it was also mildly foreshadowed when he did Zenkaiser's pose outside of the body swap episode.

I just now realized we're more than likely going to have our first male pink ranger (you can come back to laugh at me when the cast announcement comes and it's revealed Pink's a girl)
