Nice pulls! I've seen some people not get both body-halves of Sky Shadow in a box, so that's a plus.
They're not spilled, they're deployed.

Power Rangers is an inherently goofy concept beyond the likes of normal sci-fi and comic books because of the very method of its existence: it's taking existing footage from a totally different show from a different country and adding in locally filmed segments to try and hodge-podge a series out of. That will never not be obvious and distracting, as well as severely limiting just what the franchise could ever do. In this day an age where story structure and integrity are held to a higher standard (even if few media reach that standard) having a show that can't even be wholly original is going to stand out. |

No show, nor story for that matter, is wholly original. The only thing that matters is execution.
Said execution is of course, subjective, but even so. |

This isn't about creative originality, but objectively, Power Rangers is just re-used footage cut around some new Saved by the Bell footage.

And the US Godzilla was an entire pre-existing movie but with footage of Raymond Burr added in, yet many still see it as completely legitimate. I really don't see the big deal.

I've never really done Power Rangers, so I'm probably wading in way over my head here, but I think the Transformers comparison is pretty apt.
Transformers was a hugely popular toyline and TV series for a few years in the 1980s, before vanishing from the public eye. It carried on through a variety of popular incarnations that never quite regained its former widespread acceptance, until a live-action movie attempted to leverage the nostalgia of adults who grew up on the original incarnation. It connected, massively, and allowed for the current franchise ubiquity. Power Rangers was a hugely popular toyline and TV series for a few years in the 1990s, before vanishing from the public eye. It did not connect, keeping the franchise as a bit of an also-ran. Like, I know some folks in their mid-20s and early-30s who still have very strong feelings about the original MMPR stuff (making time each year to see the Rangers who show up for C2E2) in the same way some folks in their 40s and 50s have very strong feelings about G1 Optimus and Megatron. I think someday there'll be a Power Rangers movie that gets that franchise to a higher prominence. There's too much money in it for Hasbro to stop trying, you know? But I think the moment for a MMPR reboot came and went. Anything after this would probably need to be wholly original. Anyway, just my semi-outsider take! If I'm way off-base, let me know!

Both franchises now being owned by Hasbro and having similar toylines (LC and Classified) makes it even moreso a comparison now. |
