And it may be silly. But it's how I view it.

I hate Screen Junkies. They just released a review of it and were very disrespectful of it. They went in wanting to hate it and they came out hating because that's exactly how they were going to be regardless. This could be Lord Dionysus himself coming down from Olympus with the offerings of the finest wine and cheese and they'll still hate it because his toga has Power Rangers on it.
It's hate by association so had it not been titled Power Rangers they would call it "What Pacific Rim should have been." Or, "Breakfast Club with a toku spin." But nope, because it's Power Rangers, automatic hate. They said it's too much like the show, then't it's not enough like the show. They hated the build up because they didn't like that the film actually had character development. And then they proceeded to spoil the film without any spoiler warnings. They have no respect for the franchise or the fans looking forward to this film and just assume this will be seen as a garbage film despite more positive reviews than BvS, Transformers, or Fantastic Four. Obviously this film seems to be a mixed bag. But the consensus is that it is a fun film over all and that's all I care about. And that's why I agree with GreenPsychoRanger and Annuga. It's really better to go see the film and judge for yourself than take the critics at face value. Clearly the reviews are all over the place, ranging from complete trash to a godsend for the Superhero genre. It's good not to be in an echo chamber and that's why it's good to look at positive and negative reviews, but the best negative reviews are those who are honest. Some actually are simply put it: a movie for the fans. While other critics clearly don't know what they're talking about. Having taken classes in college on movie reviews I can tell what reviews are constructive and insightful, and others that are mean spirited and hateful for the sake of being hateful. Go see the film and have fun, good or bad it appears to be a fun film either way. I myself cannot wait to go see it. |

And odds are, I'm betting you're basing your opinion on these "shitty movies" on those of the critic. No matter how hard a person tries, they cannot always completely separate their personal preferences from their job. A small part of those preferences will always find a way to influence a person's opinion/criticism. And that, for the most is why I truly do not read critics reviews. THe fact that people follow them at their word just makes it worse for me.
Hey Split Lip!!! Does that sound better/make more sense to you? And no I'm basing my view on being forced to sit through shitfests like Suckerpunch and Epic Movie. Last edited by Yellow Ranger; 03-20-2017 at 08:51 PM.. |
