So the more Ikki use Vice power, the more memories he loses. Boy that's a very rough trade off, had Ikki known about this on Day 1, you think he would still become Revice?

Apparently if your memories of somebody disappears, the physical evidence of their existence such as photos also disappears : P
That was so much emotion and flair for plot focusing on one-off characters and a goofy flower monster, but I quite liked it! I suppose my only gripe is that I was looking forward to some backstory about Ikki to inform more of his basic character (half a year into the show's run in...), but since he had lost of his memories of it until now, I guess it doesn't really inform anything about him, huh? Next week teasing what I am assuming might be the beginning to the big conclusion to Sakura and Aguilera rivalry. At least I hope it's going there soon because I really don't want that thread to be pushed and streched out all the way to the absolute last minute like Ren and Dezast were ^_^;; Last edited by FreshToku; 04-17-2022 at 03:18 AM.. |

I forgot to watch last week, so I did both at once, which was quite nice in this case. It was nice getting some more information on Ikki's past, especially since a lot of the stuff here was brought up in passing early on. It was a nice little arc that was a breather but also moved the story and characterization forward. I can't help but think that all of this backstory for Ikki could have been paced much better though. Even if not fully resolved until now, I think talking a bit more about Ikki's past with playing soccer and making it a bit more obvious something was wrong with Ikki's memories earlier on would have been better and added some interesting intrigue.

I liked this episode overall, and I loved what it was going for, but I found myself getting a little... lost, in some of the details. Like, that explanation for the photos at the end isn't hugely relevant to the overall plot, but it's the perfect example of a thing in here where I got a bit taken out of the episode because I was sitting there going "...huh." That's a payoff to that foreshadowing that renders the foreshadowing itself pointless, isn't it? Nothing about the question of those photos suggests the answer we got, and I'm pretty sure most people were theorizing the exact opposite answer, given the recurring visual was of Ikki himself disappearing.
And there are other bits I question too, like having Ikki get his emotional catharsis from making up with an illusion of Jiiko(?), but all that aside, the broad strokes of the episode were quite solid, and delivered with loads of style thanks to Sugihara. I'm not sure what this arc really added to Ikki's character (It kinda feels like he just fell back on the "I'm fine the way I am" comfort zone yet again?), but I can at least say for sure it touched on a lot of his different facets in a pretty interesting way. I think my favorite thing in the episode was Aguilera's scene though, to be honest. Kinoshita is so obsessed with Sakura, he literally writes characters in the show to be obsessed with Sakura, and it never stops being amusing to me. Still not complaining though! Next week should be fun!

Not a fan.
I dug the villain being the coach basically forcing Ikki and Jiko to confront each other. Even if that's not quite the best way to help quarreling people, I did like it ultimately. Also, George briefly being tempted by the Demons driver is a nice moment. Curious to see where that goes. That aside, nawh, this episode didn't do it for me. First, Ikki is once again called out, only for it to be pushed aside with "That's who I am" again. Only this time, he's also complimented for it. Then equal parts blame is placed on Jiko for both him encouraging Ikki to continue soccer as well as his cold attitude? Then the ending basically being Ikki will forget his family, rather than others will forget Ikki if he keeps fighting? That's kind of a shit resolution to this plot. Blade overusing King Form this is not. Revice has a tendency to set up some good dunks, then proceeding to drop the ball mid-jump. I can't wait to be disappointed by the Aguilera plot, because I already know I will be.

I had my own personal theories about why Ikki gave up his soccer dreams up until this arc, and like? The Jiiko stuff didn't live up to my personal expectations, but it's fine.
-this might be a unpopular opinion but like: revice doesn't need this memory loss gimmick, at all? ikki having multiple events he asked vice to supress is kinda cool, (and an interesting method of exnaming his character if you use it properly!) but having *every* use of vice's power(him transforming) make him lose his memory...........? it's like they realized they still need a major "risk factor" for using vice (after we've had 2 forms and bunch of episodes dedicating to minimizing that risk and all) for these last stretch of episodes? it just feels like another unnecessary roadblock that doesn't really add anything to revice's themes, but maybe that's just me. (Also why is Vice the only demon that has an explicit contract with their user so they can utilize their power, isnt that odd?) -Lovekov's re-styles seem to not be working, hope that means we're in for a upgrade! Really excited for the stuff for Sakura and Aguliera next time. |

Dear Gaga apparently dropped on the 13th (haven't seen a rip of it anywhere tho so I don't know if they're setting up something) so I'm going to assume if we don't see him by like, late-May or something then his reappearance will be a cameo at best.

Okay, I usually don't comment on episodes because as a whole I think Revice has been pretty good aside from minor nitpicks, but this episode really bothered me. Making Subaru the demon creator is good in theory. But in execution, it's idiotic.
So, he summoned a demon, monsters that are very well known threats and could definitely hurt innocent civilians, all so he could get Ikki and Koji to make up. As opposed to, I don't know, just sitting Ikki down and telling him what he did since he clearly didn't remember. I know the monster only seemed to focus on attacking Ikki, but considering it also attacked Subaru himself, I'm not sure he was even in control of it. And he did it so Koji could get a voice acting job, when he probably could have just called in sick or something. And we finally get an explanation for him disappearing from photos, and it really should have been foreshadowed more. As far as we know, Ikki hasn't had any memory problems all season long. He has only forgotten two things, but both things were memories Ikki wanted to forget. Now we're being told if Ikki uses more power he will forget more memories, but again, we haven't seen any evidence of that. I have really liked Revice, but I'm afraid it is dropping the ball hard. |
