I loved Episode 2, the cast is wonderful and I just love Riku. I can't wait for more.

Full version of Geed no Akashi. Shorter then I expected but good none the less. Anyone have any idea where I can legally buy Ultraman music? Specifically the stuff from Ginga-onward. |

I found a relatively cheap collection of the theme songs up to (and including) Orb, maybe that's what you seek: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/COCX-39629 Also, regarding this topic, I find it infuriating that I can't just buy this stuff online. If I could buy Geed's theme song for the 200 Yen iTunes ask just by using my PayPal account I would do it. Not being able to sucks so much. |

Unless you are able to jump through the iTunes loopholes by buying Japanese iTunes currency cards or something (I have no idea how that even works, sorry), importing physical CD's is the way to go. JapanCD is a good place to start, I bought from them in the past, they're legit.

This is a pretty fun and enjoyable episode, mainly it was because of Zero and his host's relationship. Seriously, whoever thought about this, they might think that Ryotaro and Momotaros' dynamic can't get even more sillier. Everyone might think that Reito becomes Zero's host because he will sacrifice his own life to save other people's life. But, nope, not quite right. He became Zero's host because he slipped on a banana's peel and got hit by a truck. That's it. Though, he did want to save the VotW that resulted in said accident.
The only thing that a little disappointed me was the way they handle the VotW or the Little Star's hosts. It felt a little bit rushed in some ways and the fact they only served as Geed's power ups doesn't really help either. Still, Solid Burning's debut is so solid and badass. Just look at the form; it's so smexy with so many chimney holes in his body. I really want to pick a SH Figuarts of his when the time comes. Not to mention, this is the first time Riku actually fought properly and not getting his ass kicked. One minor question, how long till we get Geed Claw weapon? Seriously, Primitive needs a weapon if it needs to hold up against his opponents.

Aaaaaaagggggghhhh episode 3 was so amazing. It had just about everything I could've wanted out of it and packed so much in without feeling cramped or oddly paced. This one might go a little long. Also I'm going to put spoiler tags on every little detail even though I don't think I'm giving away any real twists or anything. It might be overkill but I figure since some people definitely won't be watching these episodes until a week later, I might as well:
- I've actually always been kind of apathetic towards Zero as a character. He's always seemed kind of like the most stock fan-character ever made official, but I also can't really hate him because one, I'm me, and two, I'm totally full of it since I've never actually seen any of the movies he was the star of and I gather they're quite good. It's important to understand how little interest I have in the character when I say that for some reason the second he shows up in this show I'm suddenly super absorbed by whatever it is he's up to. - It helps that they're pairing him up with an uncool everyman. I had a feeling Reito would be one of my favorite parts of the show and I'm happy to not be let down. I might have to start calling him Ryoutarou, however. - Riku continues to be shockingly endearing, but I suppose having "into tokusatsu" as a character trait is a good way to do that. Like I honestly think it's kind of genius writing. It's simultaneously an easy way to establish his hero credentials, an excuse to make it totally believable he'd just start making up catchphrases left and right, and gets us relatable beats like getting excited about buying merch only to be disappointed when the stupid gashapon machine won't give you the thing you're after. Brilliant. - Getting back to Zero, I really like how they handled all the crucial exposition this week. I can't personally vouch for this, already being a fan and all, but I think they did a great job of making this show approachable if you don't know jack about Ultraman. Obviously it helps that our protagonists are ignorant themselves but backing up telling about Ultraman King fusing with the universe to heal it (which is totally hardcore btw) by showing Zero doing the same thing earlier with Reito is a very nice touch. - One thing I wasn't expecting and thus was pleasantly surprised by was that they let Zero sit out the fight at the end. I was seriously worried having another Ultraman around (even if he is a nice foil to our hero) would really undermine Geed feeling like the star of his own show, but it seems that won't be the case. - Solid Burning gets waaaaaay cooler the second you start seeing it fight bad guys. So yeah, if it isn't clear from how much I wrote, I loved this episode. It speaks volumes about how awesome this show is that with both a really good Kamen Rider series and a Sentai I like a lot airing, Geed has quickly become the show I'm most looking forward to each week. Can't wait for more.

Welp, this was the first episode where it killed me that I had no idea what they were saying. I mean, this was such a fun episode and it gave some exposition that I was practically crying because I didn't know what they were saying. I really enjoyed this episode anyway but still... Also, I can't wait for Zero and Geed to meet properly. Zero's eyes must be rolling around in his head right now.
Side Note: Is this what its watching Kamen Rider and Super Sentai live? Watching a commercial, advertising a commercial, advertising a commercial? |

thoughts on episode 3
Zero is the Den-O of the Ultramen and I love the mismatch of a badass galactic hero inside a wimpy salaryman who has a heart of gold and seems like a good husband and father Solid Burning is JACKED and I love the mechanical feel it has going on, and the combination of it being Zero's dad and his mentor is just awesome I love when Geed punches a Darklops and his hand is in pain for punching a metallic robot, subtle but just well-executed

Man, episode 3 was amazing. Zero fits so well into this series, I already like the dynamic between him and his host a lot.
And action-wise... damn. Solid Burning is one of the most badass Ultraman-forms ever. So many cool moving CG-parts, and the way they use steam and fire alongside it is just fantastic. I knew I would love this form after seeing it in the preview but this even surpassed my expectations. I know the fancy effects will be gone after episode 4, but still: Solid Burning is awesome! |
