Mangetsu offers a new challenge to the Ninningers. Can they defeat the Supreme Yokai or is it all a trap?
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts.
Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |

Well holy crap. I wasn't expecting this to nosedive into a two-parter.
Also, super-hyped for next episode. Two different Christmas all-stars fights in a single series?! This is why I love Ninninger.

Oh, geez. The third underwhelming Ninninger installment in a row. I know the show wants me to start getting hyped for the finale, but it's doing a poor job of taking me there. As it stands, this was a retread of episode 31... except way less interesting cause Kyuuemon wasn't involved. And awesome design aside, Kibaoni Mangetsu pretty much sucks. His motivations are lame, his plans are boring, he doesn't feel particularly threatening because they keep beating him, and, I mean, he literally just sprung out of nowhere with zero foreshadowing.
In theory, I like the thematic and plot stuff swirling around -- surpassing Last Ninja, creating never-before-seen Ninpou, the Kibaoni/Kyuuemon family intrigue, etc -- but right now I feel like all the good stuff is being spoon fed to us in really surface level exposition. None of our heroes are really discovering anything for themselves -- they're all still being told exactly what to do by other characters, and then acting like they figured it out themselves. Guys, my enthusiasm for Ninninger is crashing hardcore. We need to get back to the Kyuuemon story ASAP or this show will not stick the landing. Like most Ninninger episodes this had moments that I really liked, but overall didn't leave that much of an impression on me. I have to agree that I don't really feel like this is heading fully into the endgame yet, though I do appreciate the hints its dropping here and there (the Kyuuemon stuff in the previous episode, and the grandpa stuff here). I just feel at this point it should be less about questions and more about answers.

I'm going to treat this like an issue of Nintendo Power magazine.
Pro Tip: Skip to the last 8 minutes of this episode and save oneself the dumbness. Grampa is a GO-GO-GO-GHOSTO!!! Well, this should help if they decide to crossover with KR Ghost. In all seriousness, predictability is key here. We all had an impression that The Last Ninja was in fact the End Shiruken. Even from Episode 1 where the kids all thought he was dead and poof, he's suddenly there was a good indicator. It's also pretty apparent that the kids have reached the point where they have all surpassed him, and he is ready to use his last power to help them defeat Kibaoni. But we still don't know which family member Kyuuemon is, and Mangetsu needs a whomping.

Now, the next episode preview makes it look like it could be the end of the Mangetsu arc. I have a feeling 42 is going to be the last one before we get into the final story arc.
