Kyoryuger 27.
As ever the designs in this show are just wonderful - which makes it all the more surprising how lame Deboss looked - I also love how Endorf's monsters are of an entirely different league, it's just a shame the cooler one of the two was the first to die. Love the amount of unmorphed action in this show, really highlights the badass Souji could have been, if they had actually given him a character to play. I also thought Uchy's secret ninja transformation was hilarious, mainly because it looked like Ian's actor was visibly trying not to laugh for real. Daigo reappears, rips off his shirt...and reveals he is skinny? It was so lame, and the constant closeups only further highlighted how little muscle definition he had. That's a superhero body: Carnival is actually really cool though. Breaking Minityra's neck is a little weird - as is the assbite finisher, but both visually and conceptually it's such an awesome upgrade form.

Boukenger 2.
GOD THAT THEME. So earmwormy! Everything about the Jaryuu is epic. They have dinosaur DNA so that is reason for them to believe they should rule the world - that is just so ridiculous it's awesome, and their base is INSIDE a giant robotic dragon that can walk around under the ocean. That said when it comes to the heroes, this shows mythology is really poorly defined. I kinda assumed we'd get more than just a bit of exposition dumped at the start of the credits, but it apparently appears they're just gonna run off from that. Say what you want about OO but at least they established the characters an dynamic clearly, quickly and precisely. I feel like I've missed episodes here. From what I gather the Chief, sub-chief and blue are part of a government organization which defend the planet through adventuring (whatever the fuck that even means). They have secret labs, yet fight around the planet in a giant robot so it seems fairly counter productive. Meanwhile Matsumi was a treasure hunter, who I guess joined this government organization to get his hands on greater treasures and is partnered with Natsuki because he found her in some ruins? What the hell is even going on? It's frustrating because there are some interesting things going on, I like how the villains are unique clans but a part of a much wider evil organisation. Plus it's an interesting dynamic to make Pink and Yellow the most important Rangers after the Red one. Minus the awful name 'Go Go Dump' this show has some awesome mecha, it's weird for me to like the mecha more than the henshin hero stuff but other than Red and Black everyone has amazingly lame weapons. Although fighting around the globe might make up for that.

One of Bouken's biggest attractions is it's mecha. It's why I tried watching it. DaiBouken is a really cool mecha and the additions it gets makes it all the cooler.

It's all in the details for me, I can look past the shows low production values, when it at least LOOKS like what it is meant to look like. And all the cool details, all the working parts and shots of the inner workings, it just feels like a giant robot and a giant robot which even makes great use of its individual parts.

I dropped Boukenger for petty reasons, nothing substantial or overtly wrong with it. I just didn't like it, is all. I only really cared for the mecha portions.
But you can have fun with it all you want.

So far it isn't that great, but it has some cool ideas and neat mecha so I'll at least give it a chance to develop, as I did just drop Faiz.

I might give it another go when I finish Megaranger, though. Who knows. Maybe my opinions on the characters will have changed by then.
