Absolutely loved this intro episode and cannot wait for more.
Interestingly, when was the last time we had a sentai first episode with absolutely no mecha action whatsoever? I loved that they did that, but its been quite some time since we've had that. |

F*** me, this was amazing. I haven't been this blown away by a Sentai premiere since... ever? To be fair though, I've only been watching as it airs since ToQger, but still. They didn't even force a giant robot fight in. Think about that for a second. That's absolutely shocking. Although I guess Bandai can't be mad because the Good Striker isn't even out yet.
The point is, between that, and the lack of both an opening and an ending theme, this episode had a TON of time to breathe, and as a result they set everything up really nicely, and give you a decent handle on the characters, while still making time for some very slick action. It also strangely felt a lot like watching an episode of Sentai from the 2000's? I can't pinpoint it, but something about this felt very different from the last almost-decade of Sentai, which, as much as I love all those shows, is definitely not a bad thing. Oh, and for the record, I'm still firmly biased towards liking Patranger over Lupinranger. I had no idea Keiichiro was going to be so high-strung (I was expecting someone a bit more straightforwardly serious), but that's a really, really hilarious personality to give the guy leading a squad of super-powered cops, so I'm hardly disappointed. Not that the other guys aren't cool though. Speaking of things it's shocking they didn't do, we have two different Reds, and neither of them are screaming idiots! What are the odds? So yeah, absolutely going to be looking forward to more of this every week. This episode clicked with just as much as Kamen Rider Build's premiere, and look how great that's going 20 weeks later.

Out of curiosity, I did some checking to see if there are really as many hyperactive reds as it seems. 6 out of the last ten season have featured a hyperactive red, so it still is the norm. Interestingly, it makes no difference whether you count Lupid vs Pat as one of the last ten or not. The numbers work out the same(since Shinkenger would be the one the goes off the list).

I really liked that. It seems to focus a bit more on the Lupinrangers, but I have a feeling it'll balance out a bit more as the plot progresses. I'm glad they didn't try to cram a mech fight into the first episode as well. Overall, it was a nice surprise, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this series.
Anybody else watch Jojo's? The flame monster was voiced by the same guy as Okuyasu.

Holy crap, I think this is the best Sentai premiere we've had in years. The cinematography is fantastic in this one. While Patranger doesn't get too much action they did a good job at focusing the balance between the two teams.
Best of all, it seems like the first episode doesn't exactly focus too much on Red either, yes Kairi gets a lot of focus but it seems natural rather than forced like they did with Lucky. Seriously, I've my issues with Zyuohger and Kyuranger, but Junko Kimura feels like a different beast writing this. It also does feel like a Kamen Rider show, with the lack of ending themes and all that. I'll be doing a review and post the link here.

That was quite the fun opening. The cinematography in the fight was wonderful, and I absolutely loved the music they used for the Lupinrangers. Very enjoyable. Also quite nice to not shove in LupinKaiser's fat ass into the first episode. No giant robos gives more time to the rangers. Yay~
I liked that the police couldn't initially transform. Was pretty neat, though having it only be a limitation of less than one episode is kind of disappointing. I also enjoy the villain's plot. He's not trying to take over Earth because of reasons, he wants to pass down his fortune and crime syndicate to a worthy heir. It's kind of interesting. Also seeing him as a pretty chill boss willing to celebrate rather than just yell at his henchmen is always a nice change. I don't like LupinRed's haircut, though. It's ugly. All in all, I found myself enjoying this. I'm super curious as to where things are gonna go from here.

Things I really liked:
The slow pace. They took their time setting things up. Necessary with two team, but they easily could have tried to rush things. The suitless fighting. The Lupinrangers almost don't seen to like using the suits unless they really have to. The Lupinranger fighting style. It's just fun to watch and is quite different with all the florishes and trickery and such. The scene where they try to get Red to stop by threatening the other two. Yeah, totally doesn't work. A great moment of character showing us why the Lupinranger may be good guys, but aren't so much heroes. All the little contrasts between the two teams. One team starts with their powers, the other one gets theirs the first episode. One team uses stock transformation, the other team doesn't. Lots of others, but those I didn't already know about. The scene with the two red in civilian garb was quite funny. The Patorangers don't get quite the chance to shine, but hopefully the next episode will give them more focus. All in all a GREAT first episode. I just hope they don't blow it later. |

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't really like this premiere. Like maybe it's just me but it didn't really grab my interest. Granted I will also admit that most of the show wasn't really grabbing my interest from prerelease stuff so YEAH.
Guess I can appreciate them not trying to cram the first episode full of too much stuff, but I dunno I just feel like...it should have had a bit more to it?
