Over-Time put the subs out for this movie a few days ago. It's part of the Ryuga timeline and brings back characters from both Yami wo Terasu Mono and Gold Storm (including a kind of hilarious "oh he's totally here, just off-screen" reference to Gald). It's ostensibly also the lead-in to the upcoming Jinga series, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what in here is supposed to set that up because it is really not apparent.
It's a good movie, with a lot of nice nods to the rest of Ryuga's run. He's still a good protagonist and Rian is once again in tow as his partner. She's a little underused this time, but she still has some good moments. Junya Ikeda is back as Takeru, still possessing no concept of subtlety in his acting, but now looking way more like a hobo. It's a small mercy that he and Masahiro Inoue don't directly interact much, as I'm not sure they'd leave a single scrap of scenery un-chewed. Aguri gets a bit more to do this time around, which is a little awkward in light of Tsunenori Aoki's arrest earlier this year. The story is pretty good for a Garo film and it leads to several good fight scenes. The armor is sidelined for most of the film, so there's plenty of good wirework sequences in addition to the big CGI slugfests. Most importantly, there's a dog that barks machine gun bullets. If that doesn't sound cool to you, I'm not sure what's wrong with you as a person. |

Very enjoyable movie, it was nice having the trio again. At the end I was like "Ahah this time it doesn't end with a giant naked woman. And then I watched the stinger at very end of the credits. Onore Jinga, bamboozled again ! Never change, Garo !

Liked the movie but I have my nitpicks. - Why is Ryuga tormented by Jinga in the first scene we see him in training ? It's never addressed again when they fight. Just the standards and usual Ryuga/Jinga "why be good ?" "you want to fight as much as me" "you're dark too" exchanges. I mean, it feels like they shoved a "Ryuga doubts as GARO" plotline just for the MC to have an actual plotline. I don't remember him being tormented by his role as GARO - the golden knight at the end of Goldstorm. Quite the opposite actually - Weren't Rian and Amily oversexualized in this movie ? Okay GARO is not known to be subtle in terms of sexy outfits and naked woman, but I don't remember Rian with such a cleavage before (and the camera focusing on it like that) and some of these 2 ladies ground/leg poses and camera angles were quite more suggestive than usual. Almost feel like since it was on a big/cinema screen, they had to make it worth it, haha. - Jinga plot being "I'm reborn but I don't remember anything". GRRRRR. why don't he remember anything. I hope that end sequence with him and Amily in Makai fighting Messiah (continuity GARO fan hype) is relevant at some point. Because that is not a meaningless thing to do. If he succeed in beating and eating her, he will be the god of horrors, something KIBA couldn't do. Without spoiling, I saw Ep00 of the Jinga Spin-off today (RAW for now. Dope opening), and I don't know what to think anymore. If it's a prequel to Goldstorm, a sequel to this movie or a backstory Reboot. There are elements for each one of these.
