This month is the 60th Anniversary to Gekko Kamen. Most of you guys are wondering "Who is Gekko Kamen"?. Gekko Kamen is one of the first Japanese superheroes on TV, written by Kōhan Kawauchi in 1958. The series would be the start of a long and fabulous line of tokusatsu shows that we know today. He is consider to be Japan's answer to Batman and The Lone Ranger at the time.

Shame the series got canned, and no revival attempts have really succeeded.
Wonder if Toei will scoop him up and hold a special crossover with him and KR.

They did a movie in the 80's to cash in on the recent Lone Ranger movie and Superman II at the time, but it bombed. There was even a 70's anime TV series.
So far, I only seen a few episodes of the 50's TV show subbed and enjoy them. I can see where some of the tropes from Ultraman and Kamen Rider came from.

Don't know if anyone knows about this, but I did find an article which details Moonlight Mask and WHY the series was cancelled!
The reasoning is an old complaint (between Japanese and Western Parents), but I do understand WHY! http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2014/03/...-early-heroes/ |
