I don't think a completely new formula or direction towards a different demographic will happen with sentai. It's not like they are going to switch back to evenings and air more adult themes.
And like Kickback said, the gimmicks was pretty a reboot in the toy line direction and were featured in the show. |

It's possible that they might to a retooling of Gorenger for the 50th anniversary. I don't think it will reboot the franchise entirely but it might try to draw parallels to the beginning of the franchise. The costumes might be similar and the story might be similar, but they won't take away the giant combining robot, the costume material currently used, or the CGI effects.

A Goranger movie similar to Kamen Rider: The First will most likely bomb. Movies that bring back classic character and give them a modern update seem to fail over there. Gavan 2012, Kikaider Reboot and Gamera: The Brave bombed at the box office in Japan. Godzilla 2014 was lucky enough to do well in Japan unlike those films.

What old gimmicks are you referring to? Like gimmicks to buy or gimmicks in the filming making style? I don't think gimmicks were really a thing during the older seasons. The earliest gimmick I can think of were the power animals from Gaoranger

The collecting gimmick thing seem to started with Go-Onger from what I can remember with the Engine Souls. The older seasons never had a major collecting gimmick to them from what I can remember besides Gaoranger.
Sentai and Rider needs gimmicks these days in order for these shows to be made. Go-Busters had no gimmick and became the lowest selling Sentai in years. |

well diaranger/thunder zords had the tiny pilots that road on top of the mecha/zords and could fit inside diaren-oh's/thunder megazords's chest
that was a cool gimmick for 5 seconds until the little figures where lost in the carpet i am having a hard time thinking of other gimmicks from earlier toy lines Last edited by GPTF01; 01-03-2015 at 05:27 AM.. |
