GARO Yami wo Terasu Mono Episode 5: Interesting plot twist with the Female leader of the force. Her apparently being possessed by a horror is something else. I am intrigued with this. I also loved that Takeru kicked Ryuuga to face the special force in return for being thrown in front of the street. Still I know isn't like the before GARO series but still tells an intriguing story right now.

Drive, just finished watching episodes 1-3. Don't really like it at the moment. Also didn't like Faiz, Blade, Hibiki, Kiva when they started but they grew on me. Fourze on the other hand never really grew on me, it was tolerable I would go weeks to months without watching it.
ToQger is the worst Sentais I have ever seen. The only character I like is the sixth and he annoys the shit out of me with his constant talking of dying that day. |

GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 6: Interesting to see Horrors can be powered up by music. I really enjoyed Ryuuga's singing and his talk with Shin that he can help someone find what's in their heart is awesome. I loved the fight scene with Ryuuga, Takeru, Aguri, and Rian battling together that was totally awesome and the song is totally awesome too. I can't wait to see Takeru's armor next episode. Though I wish we had real suits back.
GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 7: I really like Takeru now, this was a great episode for him trying to save this family. I hate that in the end he was only able to save the girl of the family. I love his knight form too it looks amazing. Intrigued with Ryuuga having more flashbacks and turning fully gold again after defeating the horror. Definitely intriguing with the horrors being controlled. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 8: I feel bad for Takeru having to see Rui and knowing the bad stuff that happened to her but she doesn't remember anything, but I'm glad he's talking to her. Aguri is really cold I wonder what happened to him in the past because he must have been hurt to be acting the way he does. I agree with Burai that Ryuuga shouldn't involve other people with what they do. Though seeing the three people who have been involved with the Horrors was interesting and that there is a family running Volcity and that there is more going on in the background. I am really interested with the story here. I loved that Ryuuga saw the Camera guy and transformed into GARO and killed the Horror within seconds. I am intrigued to see what happens next. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 9: Well here's where it picks up a whole lot. With Kazami being tricked and leading to his death sucked and leading to Ryuuga being wanted being known to everyone hampers them. Though the fight scene with the Horror Knight guy was totally awesome I loved seeing the three of them fight, I am glad they got hits in by the end but still it was amazing and even the CGI looked amazing more than it did before. I am intrigued to see where this goes because it's going to be much tougher than it was before. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 10: Well as I return to Gaim for this episode as the guy who played Micchy mainly starred in this episode. He was great though I definitely see why they wanted him for Gaim. Ryuga was great to I love his disguises now to hide himself in plain sight. Also the actor who played Souji was in this episode for a couple seconds too, so that was kind of cool, wish he had more of role in it though. I can see Ryuga start gaining the belief of the people of Volcity which keeps spreading propaganda in this city. UltraSeven X Episode 1: Not my first venture into UltraMan but probably will be the first series I continue with. I really enjoyed this episode. I always love an amnesiac hero because you never know what their back story actually is which is always intriguing. Definitely reminds me of Men In Black meets UltraMan and that's a good thing because I always loved Men In Black. Kei is a fun character too and they both kicked a lot of ass so that's awesome. I love the wrist computer thing too. The monster looked a lot better than some of the others I've seen so that helps, the story line in interesting and UltraSeven X was pretty kick ass too. So I'm down for this series, a lot of interesting parts to it and with this I finally join the realms of UltraMan. UltraSeven X Episode 2: Interesting episode, Agent R was intriguing with the Ship taking away people who want to go. I want to say even though he was vaporized I don't think this is the end of him. It was interesting that the ship was the bad guy that UltraSeven X was fighting. I like the detective work between Kei and Jin, it's a very interesting dynamic that works really well. Reminds me of some of the current shows I watch now. I am definitely intrigued with this show and will continue. UltraSeven X Episode 3: Well this villain was very intriguing and getting into Jin's mind about if the Greedy humans are bad is he going to stop them? I enjoyed the regular sized UltraMan fight that was pretty awesome and I loved the head blade taking out the alien from the side after thinking he dodged it and he was fine. I am enjoying Jin right now him not knowing who he is but still fighting is good. Kei is pretty cool too, I want to know why he fights too. Really enjoyable series right now. UltraSeven X Episode 4: Agent S is a lot of fun. She kicks ass, also a cool undercover agent. I really liked how she played off of Jin and Kei. They kicked a lot of ass, I enjoy the fight scenes in this. The Pejinera I don't think was totally defeated with that end scene so I hope that comes back. Pretty cool how he uses his head fin as a blade to defeat enemies. I liked the head parasite aliens because they couldn't shoot them, made it a very interesting threat. UltraSeven X Episode 5: This kind of turned out really dark at the end. With them helping the peaceful aliens get the weakness to their rivals kind of wasn't a good idea because of both planets' destruction, that was kind of a bad move but it kind of wasn't Jin, Kei, and S's decision. I really like these three they kick ass and are pretty interesting. This is very interesting with Jin, and I loved his fight against the monster as UltraSeven X too. I want to know more about who's Peace this is like the woman said at the end. Definitely interesting I can't wait for more. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 11: I really enjoyed learning more about Rian, she is a really interesting character and kicks ass. I like how they are bringing Ryuuga and Rian together, I like the pairing and I hope to see more, they would be really cute together. Takeru with Rui was just so cute, I had the the biggest smile on my face when he said he wanted to be someone important to her. Takeru is the biggest surprise to me right now with his character from what I remember. He reminds me a lot of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern which I haven't found a character like before which is interesting. I love Ryuuga too he is so awesome and I love how he can sense history from objects and how he knew Rian was a good person too. He reminds me a lot of Kouga just different which is really cool. I really like this series right now and I can't wait for more. =) GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 12: Great to see them finally take action against Rivera. I really enjoyed the trick they pulled on her to get Ryuuga off the hook by faking his death. I really enjoy the chemistry between Ryuuga and Rian a lot more now. Takeru was a lot of fun too. I am glad they can finally hunt the Madou Horrors, I definitely feel the first half is over and it's time for the second half of the series. I can't wait for more. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 13: This was a great episode for Aguri, who has been lacking screen time. I like how he learned from Ryuuga from changing his plan, and gaining courage and thinking differently on how to fight, and being an awesome Makai Knight. These horrors are sick with harvesting human souls, I really want to see these guys get taken down hard. I felt really bad for Takeru and seeing Rui's family be sent off like that almost put me in tears myself. This second half of the season definitely started off strong. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 14: This was interesting, Hyena I figured was lying and trying to manipulate the team this episode. Though I love that Ryuuga tricked him back and defeated him that was great. The part with Zedom and who sings the song I definitely think will come back soon and maybe hint more at it. Seeing that Madou Horrors can be created is interesting. Very intriguing as the plot continues. GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono Episode 15: A Clip show episode which was done pretty well, I enjoyed the setting up of Ryuuga's mother's grave and how he thought about everything that's happened. His origin how he obtained the GARO armor was pretty awesome too. My guess is that the GARO armor is somehow connected to Zedom or something along the way that's why it's Black now. It definitely looks like it picks up next episode. Can't wait for more. UltraSeven X Episode 6: Interesting episode, with Kaidou from Faiz here. I thought it was him when I first saw him, he pops up everywhere lol. Well he's in 3 of the Toku Shows so good for him. Learning a little more about the woman following Jin, and a little more about Jin was pretty cool. I'm happy that Takao gets to live his dream because of the peaceful Soul of Light alien. Nice to see that not all the aliens want to cause harm here. Kei's reaction to hearing that S and Jin were on a date was funny, that was a good joke. Looks like we'll get more action next episode. UltraSeven X Episode 7: From the episode with the least action to the Episode with a lot of action. This reminded me of a Doctor Who episode with these Sound screaming aliens. I like the love story with the introduced Alien who fell in love with the planet and the Agent D. I liked Kei's interactions with him, and how he's falls for the love and peace stuff. Most intriguing stuff with Jin and the Girl in White who says his true battle as the Savior is coming. The Giant Battle was a little lacking because it really wasn't a fight it was a fin blade through the monster and boom lol. Still I loved all 6 six of them fighting at different points in this show. I will say for a short series I love these characters.

After spending ages with it thanks to things getting in the way, I've finally finished Kikaider 01. I REALLY enjoyed the original series despite its flaws, but sadly the sequel doesn't quite live up to that greatness.
Kikaider 01 is a show that can easily be split into three parts - the first third is all about the Hakaider Squad, the second third is the debut of SHADOW and the third is the arrival of Bijinder, Waruder and 01's continuing battle against SHADOW. The series pretty much progresses in quality as it goes along - the first part isn't that great at all, the second is an improvement and then the final third is the best. The Hakaider Squad section sucks because the show is just a painful copy of the original. Each episode plays out in exactly the same way with the characters all serving the same purposes (albeit switched around a bit) and they all feature some ridiculous bit where the monster exploits 01's weakness (which in this case is that he's solar powered...making him utterly useless in the dark). 01 doesn't really get much of an introduction at all either - he just shows up out of a statue and starts fighting bad guys. Took me a while to realise he's actually the OLDER Kikaider brother, not the younger one. It wasn't all that clear. The other problem with the first third is that Jiro appears in pretty much every episode, which is great if you want to see the original Kikaider but otherwise makes 01 seem really inept at his job. Of course when SHADOW start showing up Kikaider's actor goes off to be in Inazuman, so the focus shifts more to be on the titular character. Once it does, 01 becomes a lot more likeable. While Jiro always had a loner type quality to him, Ichiro is like everyone's big brother. Fast-forwarding to the final third, the emergence of Bijinder and Waruder really make the show a lot more enjoyable. They add that "conflicted robot" element that the original had, but in different ways. Both designs take a little bit of getting used to, but development wise are probably the strongest characters in the entire series. Waruder especially, I NEED a Figuart of him after watching this. The biggest disappointment of 01 for me though was Hakaider. Since I started getting into the Kikaider franchise, my love for Hakaider has grown to the point where I'd rank him as one of my all-time favourite toku characters. But unfortunately 01's Hakaider (who now has the brain of original series villain Professor Gill) is a very different beast to the original Saburo Hakaider. This Hakaider is more of a cliche thug, causing trouble for anything and everything around him before settling into a pretty standard henchmen role. He still has his moments and can be quite fun to watch, but is nowhere near as engaging as he once was. Anyway, next up - Mechanical Violator Hakaider!

UltraSeven X Episode 8: This was a good mystery episode, that was an intriguing twist there with the guy who played Kamen Rider Glaive from Blade: Missing Ace movie. That he turned out to be the killer who dressed up as his dead wife and his memory was twisted was really dark. This show definitely has really strong storytelling. UltraSeven X's Super speed attack was really cool. The interesting thing was that Jin could have saved some of the drug dealers but just kind of let them get attacked, which they were bad people so I can see why he didn't feel the need to save them. I mean his duty was to stop the alien which he did which saved more innocent lives. I really can't wait to find out about Jin's past, there must be something big he did, and I can't wait to see what happened to make him have amnesia.

So like I said, next up on my Kikaider viewing adventure was Mechanical Violator Hakaider. Directed by Keita Amemiya of Garo fame.
Basically you could fit the entire plot of this film on a post-it note. Hakaider wakes up in a dystopian future, travels to place named Jesus Town where the people live under a fascist ruler. Meets some rebels, falls in love with a rebel, watches them all get killed so in turn goes out and kills everyone. To be honest, it's just easier to call the film "Hakaider Smash". If you aren't a fan of shoehorned religious imagery in your toku though, best give this one a miss. The whole thing is just one big spin on good vs evil with as many Christian themes it can throw into it. I guess "Jesus Town" should have been a pretty good giveaway. Absolutely none of the other characters in the film are remotely memorable (Michael has a pretty neat design though, I could go for a Figuart of that), so it's basically just Hakaider carrying the film. Hakaider and his ridiculously overpowered shotgun of death. The fight scenes aren't particularly impressive, but its just so fun to watch bullets ricochet off of him as he tears down anything and everything in front of him. And then of course, there's that gloriously twisted Kikaider "cameo". Hakaider's received a 90s tastic new look for the film, but I have to say its probably my least favourite iteration of the character in terms of looks. I freely admit that the muppet-esque grin of the original is an acquired taste, but the Ninja Turtles toy grimace of this version doesn't feel like an improvement. I also think the design loses a lot by lacking an exposed brain, something I'd consider a staple of his design. Critically its not a particularly great movie, but it is just good gritty fun.

I like the Hakaider movie. It's not particularly complex, but like most Amemiya works it is just plain gorgeous to look at. I still love the white room with everything underneath the surface painted red to make it look like the room bleeds as it's damaged during the climactic fight.

Yeah, that scene was pretty awesome. I think making the bits of wall look like meaty chunks might have been a bit too much, but I admire the effort that went into it

UltraSeven X Episode 9: More detective work, which is pretty interesting connecting to an event 100 years ago with the Lunar Eclipse. These stories have been very deep, and definitely more adult. Each of the aliens lately have had very intriguing back stories that you actually can feel the pain for them. Jin, Kei, and S are a very good unit together in finding the pieces to each murder/alien case here. Excited for more.
UltraSeven X Episode 10: I was right, that someone is controlling the information in the city because those giant monitors and news people gave me a bad vibe, also might be similar to GARO Yami Wo Terasu Mono so gave me the first instinct not to trust them. Learning a little more about Jin was interesting and learning more about Elea, the woman in white, is also intriguing. I liked that this connected back to the past episodes, I think the finale is going to be big here. UltraSeven X Episode 11: This episode was amazing. Finding out what the Aqua Project is about, and what Jin knew about and his connection to Elea. Pretty exciting information here that they found a parallel universe and that's why the government's been keeping it secret. I was totally shocked when Elea reveals that DEUS wasn't lying and was an alien mimic was the biggest fake out I've seen so far. Glad it was just for the cameras and not true, I can't wait for the finale, this show has tied in the stuff from past really really good. I also liked the intensity between Kei and S, as well as Kei and Jin too this episode with Kei holding the guns to both S and Jin and was joking afterwards I loved. UltraSeven X Episode 12: Ah all answers revealed. I really enjoyed learning that UltraSeven came from the parallel universe and merged with Jin which is why he forgot his memories. The Final battle between all the shadow leaders/Spiders vs UltraSeven X was pretty awesome. Kei and S defeating the robots was awesome too. I loved their reactions of learning Jin was the one who saved them as UltraSeven X and I loved his reaction to them back. It was great that they got the original UltraSeven actor back at the end too. That DEUS was corrupt and everything was a really interesting story. I am going to miss these characters but it was a very well done story. For my first UltraMan series the ending really got me hooked, and I want to watch more now. I actually might go watch UltraSeven next because I have it downloaded and I really enjoyed this series, and enjoyed that he traveled to a Parallel World to save it as well. I highly recommend this series to everyone.
