This episode was really decent. Lots of plot, a ton of action, a new Dinoknight, and just the right amount of levity. So far, one of my favorite of this series.

I wonder what Towa and Banba are up to most of the time. They don't hang out with the other three. I guess we're to assume they're training or else looking for their master.
As far as the episode is concerned, I'm ok that Canalo has joined the team this early. I thought they would drag it out for a while but I guess not. And could Gachileus be dead already? So is Wyzul back next week? I do prefer Wyzul though so I won't complain.

Considering how much they built Gachileus up as being tactical, it felt a bit out of character for him to just jump into the fray and die like that, so either he was just a " commander of the month " that did not really act like his character first showed us, or he planned this.
Which could be interesting in the future if they do anything with it, but potentially just a commander of the month and he is not coming back so hard to say. Overall the episode was pretty good, it was around this time the bad toy sales for the previous season started hitting and the show got a ton of changes to push into one team while dumping on the other though...... So I am a tad bit worried if bad toy sales will yet again mess with their plans which could cause a mess. Edit: Looking it up a little, it seems the first toy line for this season has done well enough to get an award together with Zi-O for 2019, unsure about the actual numbers though. I still really wish I were more excited about Ryusoulger than I am, but this little duology of episodes written by Naruhisa Arakawa and directed by Koichi Sakamoto won me over well enough.
Actually, I act like it's a big deal who's doing what, but while Sakamoto definitely worked his magic in a few places (any of those shots of KishiryuOh that involve water getting splashed on the lens come to mind), I don't actually think there's been a huge difference in style or quality between any of the different writers, which is probably a good thing. Anyway, the thing that I liked most about these episodes were how they totally flipped the stereotypical 6th Ranger introduction arc on its head. Canalo is just a nice, environmentally conscious guy all around, who is totally sociable and more than willing to work with the other Ryusoulgers, who he can tell are obviously good guys, but it's his mentor/parental figure telling him it's a bad idea. It's a bit more of an interesting spin on that kind of conflict, and I like that Canalo showing as much resistance as he does is clearly because he values Mosa Rex's opinion that much. It's a very solid story arc, and it's nice that we got some layers to Canalo beyond looking for a girlfriend right away like this. It's less effective than it might've been considering that we've had plenty of extra members in Sentai who aren't jerks anyway, so it's not exactly totally fresh, but still. I could even name a certain other Gold guy who put a twist on that idea, but that would be a cheap shot, and I'm already impressed enough Gaisorg has kept his nose out of these episodes, so I'll cut the show some slack. It also avoided making it a repeat of Towa and Bamba's arc, to the point where it's entirely possible Canalo's going to be hanging out with Koh and everyone more than they are, which is pretty impressive.

This, alongside the last episode, was definitely the best from Ryusoulger so far. It totally made up for how I felt episode 14 was a really generic and lackluster debut for a sixth ranger. Everything from Canalo's determination, his conversations with Mosa Rex, and then the debut of Kishiryu Neptune was just wonderful and great not just for this show, but by any sentai standards.

Such a great episode. The fights scenes were ridiculously good. Canaro and Kou tag-teaming Gachiresu was super well choreographed and the effects looked great. Cool to have a bit of a different flow to the episode as well, with the main ground fight happening in the first half with the second half pretty much solely focused on the mecha battle. Not much room for story but didn't need it. Oto is hilarious and the joke with Melt had a funny payoff at the end.
KishiryuOh Neptune looks phenomenal. I don't know how they did the practical underwater bubble effects (bubble machine maybe? They looked far too authentic) but it resulted in a really beautiful backdrop. I'm also glad Neptune's transformation is practical, albeit in front of a green-screen. Glad Canaro managed to get through to Mosarex. Seems like Gachiresu was only introduced to have Ryusoul Gold someone to kill during his introductory episodes. |
