WATASHI GA KITTA!!!!!
This was a fun debut episode, nothing too spectacular, but I enjoyed it. First off, I like the direction they're handling the team formation, seeing them recruit a team from the ground up from the first episode, rather than off screen (Again, only seen Lupinranger vs. Patranger onwards, and the first episode of Goranger). And might I add, I liked the little Goranger clip at the beginning, though I still wonder why they wanted to do this for the 45th anniversary rather then the 50th, but I guess they're trying to have 2021 be the anniversary year for Rider and Sentai simultaneously. Next, I love the villain designs. From the general who looks like a tank, the scientist on wheels, and the goons with their plug staves, I just really like Sentai's goofy villain ideas, and having them robot themed in a sort of retro sci-fi scheme is really charming. And speaking of designs, Zenkaiser is as beautiful as ever, seeing his Akaranger inspired design is such a treat. And what we've seen so far for the Kikanoids in action, I think they're doing this rather well. And as an added bonus, with they're slimmer suit designs, they even make the giant fights seem more exciting, and I really hope they continue to impress. Finally, the legacy power ups. I think in this premise, it could make for some great combos to utilize in battle, and will hopefully remain relevant throughout the show. Anyway, while not anything mind blowing, it was a fun debut for what looks to be an interesting season. |

You can expect these uocoming robitics four will become the next taros from deno if it hits well with japanese kids. They even did the dance intro. Blue and yellow kind of reminisce of beetle stag j or gorilla from gobuster and even balance from kyuranger given limited lines if gets . Usually anniversary series skips the versus or skip the returns . I wonder if they can get gokaiger back for the 10th.

Given its written by the gal writer that worked on zyuoh and gokai, it's weird she retcon continuity with AU parallel world agains like decade . It even reminds me of zio where it take away/ seal their power + world during their prime fighting period from 1976 goranger , 1992 zyuranger, and recently kiramager . Sentai is usually very simple, so I don't think they'll explain how the mom and dad manage to replicate legendary sentai powers so easily meanwhile gokaiger needs to work for it. Even if they might be forced to work for the bad guys for this year. How typical and work if favor of the heroes where this is the last world with sentai heroes as well, but they can't seal them up in gear medals like previous 44 plus non sentai heroes world.

I do appreciate one thing here that Gokaiger failed at, giving a good excuse as to why every former Sentai team failed to save the world and we need a new one, the Zangyack despite all the hype and worry from the Gokaigers...never really came across as more than a generic evil empire that other Sentais had already defeated.
In Zenkaiger however, they were seemingly attacked near the start of their careers, so they aren't fully powered or experienced yet and it was a sudden machine covering up their entire universe, no chance to even fight back, even the Sentai villains weren't expecting that...but those are what we see, according to the descriptions about the powers and teams that defended the worlds, i guess the Sentai teams and their villains still fought anyways but the heroes can't figure out how to take the black sky out of their universes? Shame because it would be cool to see an alternate universe where it's revealed that the heroes and villains joined forces trying to learn about this strange phenomena and trying to dispel it. |

But in Zenkaiger, Tojitendo sealed off the legendary Sentai in to separate worlds and that explains the number 42 on the Lupinranger and Patranger Gears, since they're connected by the Lupin Collection. This means that the Gears aren't numbered by season, but rather by the worlds that the Sentai were splintered in to. While Gokaiger functions as an independent Sentai, Zenkaiger cannot exist without Zyuranger, Gaoranger, Magiranger and Boukenger at minimum. Zenkaiger look like they're actually meant to represent the legendary Sentai and that carries a lot more meaning than just Aka Red being like "here, have some cool powers, k, bye". I could see that happening in Liveman and Gekiranger.

Initial thoughts having watched the subtitles this morning: I still prefer Gokaiger but I do at least like Zenkaiger more than Decade, given this is at least more entertaining in my book. Funnily enough maybe the 2010s seems to have been my favourite decade for anniversary tokusatsu shows involving turning into previous heroes in some form, nice for that decade to have a small victory in something because I was never a big fan of it otherwise.

I don't have much to add that everyone here hasn't already said. I did enjoy the ep now that I have watched it with subs and I appreciate how we're building the team one by one instead of all together at once

Just watched it and I was neither overjoyed nor utterly disappointed. There were actually some small moments of genuine intrigue and joy, like the "Grandma Joins A Sentai" gag! You can definitely get a sense of greed and desire for power and control from Tojitendo as they seem to value militarism and rule over anything else, with no interest in valuing life that doesn't carry their "status". This suggest that they chose to be villains, and the show will probably address this as the reputations of the Kikainoid populace has definitely taken a public perception hit here. I do wonder why nobody referenced Tojitendo given the amount of time interacting with humans. I'll admit that it seems odd for the Grandma to not realize that an underground lab exists beneath her shop, but that's neither here nor there. The designs don't bother me (save for the gun, which doesn't fascinate me), but I wasn't particularly impressed with the finale battle(s). It started alright, but the "tail stab" didn't do it for me. I'm not comparing this to Gokaiger, because all that can do is set someone up for disappointment when you realize "This isn't Gokaiger!", and it's not going to be in a world that still hasn't been released from COVID! It's a premiere, and those aren't always a bonafide WIN right out the park, and a premiere isn't always going to imply how the show will materialize in the long run. I liked it enough to want to keep going when time permits.
