this is not about comparing the executive producers, this is about story writing in general, warning this is going to be a long post:
i feel like the disney seasons were written better than saban because nothing was forced, everything about their powers, zords, weapons, they always had a backstory behind them and they didnt repeat the same stories from a previous seasons, everything was different like it was part of theme like they were ninjas in ninjastorm, cops in spd, magic in mystic force, treasure hunting in overdrive, martial arts in jungle fury, cars in rpm, i know samurai was copy from shinkenger but im glad they used the samurai elements because that was part of the theme but after that, they started getting away from it and started reusing themes from other series in megaforce, dino charge and im pretty sure ninja steel is like dino charge and they just force new toys in every episodes without any story backgrounds, it's like just here's your new powers and let the footage do the rest. that's just lazy writing, there's no hype in the story, everything is just predicable like with the disney seasons, they were so good with hype of new powers and gear, it was like you didnt know what was going to happen. that's thing im missing with saban, i just feels nothing like disney when it comes to the writing. |

See, I don't get that when you have Zeo, In Space, Lightspeed, and Time Force in that mix. I may not like the Lights of Orion but it gave the Lost Galaxy an arc to get their power ups. I get what you're saying about the Neo-Saban stuff. But really only the Megaforces are the ones I feel have this problem and that's due to shoving 50 episodes of sentai into a 20 episode season.
I feel that Disney wasn't so much better written. Dino Thunder literally had the main rangers fall into their powers with no training or reason. Operation Overdrive may have had a different plot but that didn't make it good. Treasure hunting was a good idea but poorly realized due to budgetary constraints. As for using theme, I don't see how you can say that either. Lightspeed utilized the theme with Time Force being a near one for one adaptation. I don't know how well Dino THunder maintained their theme since they were trying to make it closer to the original MMPR in many aspects. Again, I think the current growing pains of Power Rangers on Nickelodeon is the main reasoning here. The main issue with Samurai/Megaforce has been deleted (you know who) and while DC/DSC wasn't without it's problems I don't think you can write it off. Samurai had a tight production time and overzealous need from it' runner to directly adapt Sentai word for word. Megaforce had to burn through 50 episodes of footage and PRSM had to so many last minute changes it wound being the straw that cost what's his face his job. I won't say Ninja Steel is a direct repeat of DC simply because the dad subplot. I'm willing to see where it's going. |

Disney could have good seasons but, Old Saban Era had better villains.

While some seasons were great (using Mystic Force, SPD, Jungle Fury as wonderful examples. Dark Wish was perfection and I'll fight you). And some performaces were better "Korragg, Udonna, Lothor. Lother was money. Fight you). The examples I give why they were worse come as ones you can probably imagine. OO was a train wreck start to finish with the only bright spot being Once a Ranger. The second thing I point to is RPM. While a good season they practically destroyed any chance it had by taking it off Disney XD and putting it on ABC at five in the freaking morning. Disney made some good decision but ultimately dropped the ball. Also ignoring the horror that was season one re-imagined.
Now Saban Brands isn't perfect either. But my problems with them mainly come from this new run. Nick's idiotic season setup splitting one season over two damned years, Samurai being a carbon copy of Shinkenger, and we'll just say every moment of Megaforce/Super Megaforce (Aside from Vrak and Metal Alice. They were beautiful). But that original Saban Brands run from MMPR on? They were good. Wild Force maybe not.. but they were losing it to Disney and I believe gave up. |

i think why people give Disney so crap for power rangers is because that it wasn't Saban anymore and it wouldn't be the same. Add in OO and some missed opportunities and you have what people say is wrong with the Disney era.
In my opinion when it comes to Disney it depends on the season. it was SPD and Mystic Force that got me interested, but it was OO that made stop and RPM made me like it again. Some ideas were good, but badly handled, some seasons were good, but had bad villains. If you look close enough some Disney seasons were just as good as Zeo or In Space. |
