I fell a bit behind on this, but I burned through the last four episodes between tonight/this afternoon. The show is... definitely a thing that happened.
I'll give it props that the show tossed a few curveballs at me that I didn't expect (didn't expect Hoshiai dying at the halfway mark; wasn't entirely sure how the Amou/Kuon fight would play out; and holy crap, Azami was played by the original AkibaBlue - how did I miss that?). I was usually interested to see what happened next, too. That said, I can't really say I liked the show all that much. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't like it. It is very much a show that I watched. Quote:
I really enjoyed this series and am honestly glad this was the ending they chose purely because well... it's open ended. It feels like it could be the start of a new universe because tbh and as I said when I first saw Versus Road...
The Saejima Saga/Universe is very nicely wrapped up/has a fair deal of closure thanks to Moonbow Traveler, to where it'd feel weird if we went back there. On the opposite end, the Ryuga-verse feels like they're really running out of stuff to really expand on. To the point where Jinga itself feels so, so very disconnected from the Ryuga-verse when it takes place. So I'd really love it if they decided to continue on in the Versus Road universe because this conclusion definitely feels like they left it open enough for at least one sequel. Versus Road, though? Meh. I really didn't care about any of the characters - I barely learned any of their names over the course of twelve episodes. Going for the battle royale theme was definitely a new approach, but it leaves this version feeling really scant on mythology. I also really hate the "cyber" look of the Garo armor. So yeah, I'd be down for a new continuity; I just don't want it to be this one. |

I think we could do more Ryuga/Rian stuff, though; it's not like there's much of an ongoing story there beyond the "will you two just screw already" part. My only concern with Ryuga, though, is that I fear we'd get maybe three episodes in and then Masahiro Inoue would show up, getting Jinga with it. Someone involved in the shows - a writer, a director, maybe a producer, I'm not sure - is just obsessed with that guy, but I am completely done with him at this point.
Like, Kami No Kiba was essentially the final fight between Ryuga and Jinga of Goldstorm except in a different setting and you had like two of the Yamitera cast to basically kinda just stand around and look pretty at the end. Not to mention while Jinga's series has an interesting premise, it's probably one of my least favorite series and just wore me out on Jinga as a character tbh. |

Finally managed to watch the finale.
Like others, I didn't really feel all too strongly about the series in either direction, but to be fair, I guess that the point. It's not amazing, it's not terrible, it's supposed to be a new experimental take on Garo. I guess I'd be down for a sequel in this continuity/universe, but I'm not really praying for one. I didn't mind the tron-style armors, probably because they look like a less extreme version of the Garo and Bolg armors from Vanishing Line. |

Necroing the thread but I suddenly remembered GARO: Versus Road
Stopped watching it after Ep2 to keep it when it's fully aired and I only remembered it this week. It was cool. It was definitely cooler than I expected. But as usual with GARO, I find Amemiya works to be better when they are 25 episodes long and not 12. When it's 12 it's always too short to do things correctly. On the one hand I understand it would have been impossible to stretch the battle royale plot on 25 episodes, and it felt even quite slow already in some episodes. But on the other hand all that plot around the Makai Order in that new version of the GARO-verse or even the Azami identity. One episode (ep9) intro is like : "oh yeah there was that GARO knight and his wife. The woman was pregnant but GARO went boom and the baby was tainted by evil and that's Azami. the end." 45 seconds explanation. Like she was the mastermind behind everything somehow, she is the daughter of a former GARO holder and is tainted by the ultimate evil of that particular GARO-verse (I guess ?) but I feel we didn't talk about her enough. The lack of Armor fights didn't bother me at all. Even if I like them I always prefered GARO out of suit fights. It's actually what makes me hesitate between Kamen Rider or GARO as my fav Toku series if someone ask me which one I prefer. The fact they focused on that during this show is a good point, and quite cool they give a different weapon to every participant, even some non important ones. On the characters topic I'm surprised. I expected to not care about them that much, considering the short series and the "big" cast for it. But I admit I actually cared. Surprisingly the two I have the least love for is Kuon and Hoshiai. Hoshiai just felt like "random friend who sacrifices himself" (and also his possession by a horror was a bit too random at that point). And Kuon was also a very bland protag from start to finish (but quite cool by the end). But I liked the others. Amou (White hair black clothes) and kanata (Black hair white clothes) were both opposed and exactly the same in the end. The Youtuber (Nagusuke) was cool to follow during his search for whys and whats with his attitude. The 2 (but quite different) psychopath of the show. One violent "I wanna have fun" type and the other genderless "what do you know about me/How can you judge me?" type. Though the second made me uneasy most of the time. But that was still a nice character because Amemiya is good at tackling these kind of human problem (it was funny for that character to be "who are you to judge me ?" based but not because of his genderless being but for his murderer past. Which Im sure the actor had to suffer from his genderless being more IRL than in the show) I was late to notice Shuka (the humanoid AI) is actually Momotsuki Nashiko (the current Yodonna in Kiramager). It made me pay attention to this character way more. That's also a good example of a character who would have been more developed in a 25ep series. the few bits near the end were really interesting. Now I really hope this show will have a sequel. I still prefer the good old chivalry based feeling GARO from the Saejima-verse, but this new show was quite good considering I expected nothing. The problem now is that while some doors are open (What will kuon do ? What will Azami do with the Dark Metal ?), everything else is basically destroyed/closed (every other people died and even the makai order seem like it has been destroyed by Hagiri and Azami too) ah yes to finish it feels pointless to mention it but JAM Project themes are always a huge turn on for me. Especially when they do it at the end of each ep like that (they did it in Jinga Spin-off, and now here). I'll call that the "Amazons wowowowowo effect" Wrote more than I expected for a 8 months late opinion and such a short (and a bit empty ?) show but I feel like there is always something to say with GARO/Amemiya works. Hope we can still get some GARO soon despite the Covid world. Preferably live action (not a fan of the GARO animes). Last edited by Omnikaiser; 02-07-2021 at 01:56 PM.. |

So it's been 3 months since the first 2 episodes of the original went up on Youtube with subs and nothing else. Wasn't the entire show suppose to go up? Or is it like Toei Tokusatsu World Channel which only subbed the first two episodes of each show?

There is a playlist on the GARO project channel with the first 2 episodes and then I see 5 other videos in private, so I guess only the first 2 are free sample.

I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow put that announcement out early.
Like, they did it on the 24th of December I think? It's been a month and a few weeks. But yeah, like, the private videos make me wonder if they just didn't have tons of subs ready and are trying to get as many ready as possible. Or if they're waiting for their limited screening of Red Requiem to finish before doing anything. |

I wonder if 2021 will mean only this for GARO. Since 2013 the GARO franchise is active every year with at least one new piece of work (often multiples) between Movie/Anime or Live-Action show. But so far nothing is announced for 2021 Im kind of afraid 2021 will be something like republication of past works on social medias and streaming platforms to avoid a Covid complicated year. |

Huh, interesting. I'm also waiting for more subs, since I'm really interested in seeing more Garo, but it's slightly worrying that there are only two episodes out, and so far, no signs as to when we'll get more. Though those private videos, lead me to think that they're going to sub more, maybe.
