Since our fellow community member Kamen Rider Die has already has the Underrated Rider thread going thought I would do the honors and make one for Super Sentai.

Sentai Gekiranger Best Sentai to ever exist, and yet some people still choose not to watch it. It's just...Mind boggling.

I vote Changeman! It's the last Sentai with only one Mecha and feels like a "blip on the screen" Sentai until one takes the time to look into it. Saw it over 10 years ago and was pleasantly surprised.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Boukenger. I mean, it manages to work with 4 villain groups incredibly well and manages to give everyone their own personalities.

Goseiger. Yes, the cast is very vanilla and thus boring, but it wasn't as bad as recent Sentai's problems. The show's biggest strength is Buredoran himself, I don't know if he was always meant to be the main antagonist from the start, but because he hradually become the main antagonist, he is one of Sentai's most iconic antagonist.
Also having him voiced by Kamille Bidan is just icing on the cake.

Really, any season that breaks away from the usual formula and tries something new, like Lupinranger VS Patranger having two conflicting teams, Kyuranger having a larger core team, Go-Busters being more "real robot"-ish (by Sentai standards), etc. It doesn't always work out great, but you gotta respect them for taking a risk instead of doing the same old thing again.

As for myself, I choose Liveman. This show... this show folks, was the LAST Showa Era Super Sentai. And at the time because Goranger and JAKQ were not yet considered part of Super Sentai yet, this was technically the 10th anniversary show for the franchise. Okay, so it was an anniversary show and the last of its era, what else? Allow me to focus your attention to Exhibit A:
I have said it before and I will say it again. BEST. SETUP. EVER. "Friends, why did you sell your souls to the devil?" This one line from the narrator sums up the show perfectly. And episodes 1 and 2 are easily the best two-parter episodes that starts the show off neatly. What they mean by sell their soul is that three of their classmates have joined the villain faction of the show VOLT, lead by Great Professor Bias(pronounced Bee-ahs) and also killed two of the Liveman's friends just before ditching the school to be the lieutenants of VOLT. And from there, the Liveman team and VOLT's lieutenants constantly clash and further drama ensues. Also it was a show with notable firsts: 1. First female blue ranger 2. First time a black ranger and green ranger are in the same show(until this show it would go back and forth) 3. First time two robots combined to form a super unit 4. First time the robots were animal-based(while technically Sun Vulcan was the first animal motif sentai, their robot was not) And great toku alumnis galore! It's got Jiro/Kikaider from Kikaider as their principal, Jin Matoba and Gara from Dairanger as the lieutenants. The show also has Ryu Tenkuuji aka Takeru/Kamen Rider Ghost's father from Kamen Rider Ghost as the yellow ranger, and Rosyuo from Kamen Rider Gaim as an actor playing the role of evil genius villain group boss. One observation I would like to add is that Hurricanger heavily borrowed from this show, especially the motifs, their school being bumrushed by the villains at the start of the show, and the addition of two more rangers whose motifs are horned animals(Liveman having bison and rhinoceros-themed rangers, Hurricanger having a rhinoceros beetle and stag beetle). While most of those who know this show like it as far as I am aware, being an old show it unfortunately tends to be forgotten unless someone brings it up, so, yeah folks. This show is worth it.

As for Kyuranger and LuPat, they could've been successful but they failed because they didn't reach their supposed potential. Kyuranger commited the classic mistake of focusing way too much on Red (and the increased focus on other Rangers felt like a reaction rather than what was planned), and LuPat is basically Lupinranger with Patranger being side characters. Sentai really wanted to take risk to make something new and they should have, but they always stick to their pattern on focusing on one character instead of making an ensemble series. It says something when Kamen Rider Ex-Aid treats the supporting Riders far better than Sentai's non Red Ranger.

Go-Busters was actually pretty divisive back when it was first airing. It gained alot more love as time went on though.
Anyway I agree with Goseiger being underrated. It's pretty much the only one I can claim to be, considering I've only seen a handful of Sentai. |

I'm going to say Ninninger. No, it's not the greatest season, but I do think it's better than most people give it credit for. The biggest complaint about the series I see is that the plot went nowhere, but I say that Sentai has never been about the plot, it's been about individual episodes. Lots of shows have a decent overarching plot, but I get bored watching repetitive MotW episodes. On the other hand, even though Ninninger didn't really go anywhere, the individual episodes were all pretty well done and kept my interest with a lot of unique takes on the format. The JRPG episode, for example, was amazing. I didn't really care where the series went, but I came back each week to see the next episode. I can't really say that about too many shows.
