This story isn't new to us. 22 years ago, on November 8, 1998, Seijuu Sentai GingaMan has brought a similar episode called Chapter No. 36 "The Invincible Haruhiko", where Hayate/GingaGreen got stuck on his hand with Haruhiko Aoyama by having the latter's glue fell on both hands! It was really a funny episode back then, but the seriousness is also there when they fought against Bombs of the Battobas Majin Army, which is under the Space Pirates Balban. Their main scheme was to stop the terrorism made by bombs (disguised as fire hydrants and such) and to defeat the Balban Monster while preventing the bombs from discharging until Hyuuga/Black Knight II arrived so that Hayate and Haruhiko can climb up safely and the glue was unstuck to their hands, thanks to that smelly, acidic chemical from below. Had not it happen, Bombs could fire at them and that could've been the end for Hayate and Haruhiko. Now, 22 years later, in 2020, it is the same thing! This time, Juuru Atsuta's/KiramaiRed's hand is stuck over his female high school student in a similar, yet different, way! Let's see how their hands will be unstuck just like what happened to Hayate and Haruhiko 22 years ago. Looks like the program personnel and staff of Mashin Sentai Kiramager love to recycle episodes, story plots, monsters and mecha plus the fun and the agony never stops for the Super Sentai References! As for the movie, we'd better wait. Stay safe, everyone!

WTF Japan! An entire episode with uncensored hand-holding? Think of the children!

When they first appeared in episode zero, I thought Juuru's classmates would be regularly appearing side characters but then they never appeared again and I figured they were one-offs. This episode surprised me just by bringing them back again. I like to think Kakihara is our audience insert for the episode, so we can imagine how cool and fun it'd be to be dragged into the action alongside KirameiRed and then get to ride his fire truck!
I would ask why needed to put together that giant hammer made of junk instead of just attacking the monster with their actual weapons... But of course, then we wouldn't get them blowing him up with a giant hammer made of junk. Also hey kids and collectors! You wanted to combine the mecha toys? Just glue them together!!! (This show rocks.) Last edited by FreshToku; 08-24-2020 at 02:30 AM.. |

Kiramai Blue noting that the glued-together form seemed "forced" got a laugh out of me.

I LOVED THIS EVEN MORE THAN THE LAST ONE WHAT EVEN IS THIS SHOW???
*ahem* So, Ayumi Shimo wrote two episodes of Kiramager prior to this one, 6 and 14, both of which I had nothing but extremely nice things to say about, and the former of which is still the gold standard of the series to me for how well it mixed its absurd plot with genuine heart. It's much the same story here, where once again, a fairly stock Sentai plot is done in a way that stands out due to being polished like a- Well, you know. Kakihara was kind of interesting to me in Episode Zero, which was co-written by Shimo, because she kind of seemed like a lens for the show to bit of social commentary on the youth, with that sort of jaded teenager shtick that would inherently make for a nice contrast to what the show was all about. She seemed like a character with at least a little more potential left in her, and I was excited to hear she'd finally be getting featured again. This episode isn't making any particularly grand statements, which is arguably for the better, but what it does have is some truly genuine, really stellar characterization. Befitting the theme of the episode that people have multiple sides, Kakihara displays an awful lot of seemingly conflicting traits that I felt perfectly gelled together into a pretty well written "typical" (for lack of a better word) modern adolescent. She's upfront, disingenuous, curt, honest, a liar, self-serving, self-loathing, and when you get to know her, on the whole not at all a bad person. I loved how much was going on with her, and felt that complexity added a lot to her making friends with the simple-minded Juuru over the course of the episode. She's sketched out well enough to give it more weight than just a character we don't know saying one we already like is as great as we already knew. And of course, Juuru, for his part, continues to be just the sweetest, most adorable thing, and as great as Kiramager can be when it comes to giving others the spotlight, he's a Red I'm still more than happy to see get the focus in an episode. He's not complicated, and neither are the reasons I like him, I guess. He's nice, he thinks creatively, and he helps people out. Sounds like a good hero to me. That spine of the episode, it's insanely strong, and of course, built on top of it is all the usual excitement you can reliably expect from this series. The Monster of the Week was fun, the action was silly yet engaging, and the mecha fight this time was so good, it featured the debut of what is totally going to go down as Kiramager's official first super combination, and that is wonderful. Sometimes I swear this show can just try whatever it wants to and find a way to make something amazing out of it.

I hope Kiramager is deemed a success in Toei's eyes. Does anyone have info on merchandise sales?
This is the most fun I've ever had in a super sentai series since ToQger

I really liked this episode. I expected it to be all about hiding Juuru's identity so I was pleasantly surprised when that act was dropped early on and it instead gave Kakihara the chance to grow as a character.
Which hey, I didn't expect to see her back at all. But she's such a fun character and her being forcefully glued to Juuru made for so many enjoyable moments but also room for really great character development. And I’m sure Juuru legitimately found his future wife here I think my favorite little thing about this episode was Tametomo being surprised that someone recognized his fame as an e-sports player. Really harkens back the first episodes where no one knew who he was and people didn’t take him seriously at all Also, another PPAP reference - now they are not stopping at all. Lastly, I don't remember when Takamichi started to communicate with only the word "Wonder" like some sort of Pokémon but I kinda dig it. ... That pun wasn't intended. |
