Since no-one’s mentioned it here, I’ll point out that Shirakura has been all but confirmed as producer, and evidence suggests that Jun Hikasa (of Timeranger. Abaranger and KR Blade fame) might be involved.

I don't exactly see the problem when it's impossible to look at most crossovers and anniversary things in Toku and take the idea of 'continuity' or 'canon' in them seriously. Toku has always been extremely light on this stuff; aside from movies like War Core and Super Hero Taisen which very clearly take place in some alternate universe, the setting of so many series creates contradictions in and of themselves -- Drive X Gaim is kind of hilarious when it hints at Mach, a character who is America... when Gaim's last stretch had America nuked to hell. Most of these crossovers retcon themselves, I don't really care if a series somewhere down the road says "this took place in a different universe" or "this was because the timelines were collapsing" or whatever, they never made sense in the first place; and Toku never makes sense when it comes to things like this.
Like, hell, the very base concept of any two series in Sentai or Rider or whatever taking place in the same universe, and taking that to its logical conclusion and saying every Sentai takes place in the same universe? How does any of that work in the first place? Continuity is the last thing you should be wanting to be upheld in these franchises, it was never there to begin with and even Ultraman who dabbled in it much more explicitly states every Earth to be different to make it work even halfway.

Sentai on the other hand literally 10 years ago, established that all 35 Sentais at that point shared the same world. 4 Years Later they just randomly had cameos in Ninninger to establish that it's still the same world, and another year later Gokaiger again established that all 40 Sentais share the same world. Sure the 41st Sentai is a confirmed seperate universe with seemingly easy access to the main universe. But even the shows after Kyuranger continued on one world, with TheWorld literally just showing up and fucking off for a 5 minute cameo as a joke about Zyuohger not getting a real team up. This is just Shirakura pushing his weird ass phobia of having even the slightest bit of continuity between shows that he forced into Zi-O (And essentially got retconned within 2 movies.) I get that the MCU has made "Continuity" a big ol boogeyman, but you don't need constant reminders to previous teams and shows to have continuity established. Gokaiger is the extreme while Ninninger having Blue be connected to MagiYellow was enough to establish continuity. Last edited by Damienthathedge; 12-20-2020 at 05:23 PM.. |

But it's always been very very light continuity, is the thing. Even a basic cursory glance will show you a lot of contradiction -- accepting these series means accepting that continuity just doesn't matter and every show will handle it differently. Sentai is extremely light on this sort of thing.

I mean yeah you absolutely got a point, ultimately this IS just entertainment for childeren and I shouldn't get upset about whether or not my karate bugmen and spandex heroes are on the same world LMAO.

It's not about the demographic, it's just that it's something it doesn't do.
