I've done 14 episodes of Metallix now and the show is pulling the same stunts it did with the first series - mansion monster main plot, half assed Beetleborgs subplot. I really hope arcs in the later half are what they're cracked up to be and make up for it.

Dino Thunder: Episode 3.
Yeah...one problem Linkara noted in his reviews for Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder, the audio issues when it comes to the ranger scenes...well...it's most obvious with Kira during these scenes. Also, Connor's change from jock to "nice guy" is kind of...sporadic. He goes from kind of an ignorant jerk to a nice guy who gives up his dreams because he kicked a ball to a little girl...okay. I can give this show credit for not making up the "Raptor Riders" since they were in the first episode of Abaranger, so it wasn't just something Disney made up to sell toys...but I have a feeling a gimmick like that will show up soon. And oh...god, nostalgia hit me when it got to the Megazord battle. I've said it before and I'll say it again, one advantage Power Rangers has over Super Sentai is that their battle music and theme songs are much catchier and epic for action scenes. When the instrumental Dino Thunder theme started playing during the Megazord battle, I felt like a kid on Saturday morning, watching this show again. More to come as I get to watching more episodes, but I'm still loving the show as much as I did before so far. |

Finally had some spare time so I'm hitting up the latter half of Beetleborgs Metallix. It's just a shame I have to resort to crappy VHS rips when I'm so used to the DVDs. And no, I'm not setting up a proxy Netflix service just for the sake of half a show.
It's the same old Beetleborgs fare, but I've grown oddly attached to Les Fortunes.

Locke sees if Maked Ri-DUUUR is as bad as they say Episode 01. So far on this segment of My Life, I discovered a new favourite sentai and fantastic season of Power Rangers, and they say three is the magic number.
But sadly, I was unlucky this time. The acting was bad, the dialogue was bad, the pacing was bad, the story was dumb. Ferbus isn't as horrible as they make him out to be and the villains are kinda cool but then why not just watch RX?

I think the only one that survived the transition for me was VR Troopers.

VR Troopers isn't bad. It's worth watching just to see how they spliced like three different metal hero shows together. Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad is pretty cheesy and a little dated, but not outright terrible. IMO, the Gridman fights have held up pretty well over the last 20 years. The kids aren't terrible, better actors than MegaForce at any rate. Lastly, there's Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. Finding any episodes of this is kind of difficult and the quality is never good. People can say what they will, but it was a pretty impressive attempt at an all-original American Toku. The acting gets a little better as the series went on, but the special effects remained pretty bad. Mind you, it was a 40 episode season and with no footage to pull from, I imagine the budget was spread pretty thin. |
