In the home stretch of Liveman, now and . . .man, I just don't get Volt's scoring system at all. Kemp and Mazenda come up with this bitchin robot and earn their top spot, but then Guildos and Butchy come up with a rather ropey plan to knock up one dude with their monster and that gets them suddenly put into second place.
I'm not saying it's bad, exactly, it's just . . .strange (like Liveman ever isn't?) "Well, we could take over the world with force of arms, but you know what would really put this over the top? Mpreg!" "Awesome, Dr. Bias. So we'll be knocking up everyone in the world then?" "Nope, just one guy. On the whole planet." "Ah. I think I might be talking to the wrong Bias." |

I just watched Zyuranger 01. And my overwhelming feeling I took from it is: WTF. Now I understand why so much of that first season made no sense. Also learned why Rita's Castle looked like an office block underneath.

It exists only to force the lame eternal good and evil metaphor they pulled out of their asses at the last f**king minute.

Finished Liveman.
You know, for a show that had a lot to say about the value of life and seemed really dedicated to the whole idea of spreading positive energy around, man, that last stretch was bleak as hell. I enjoyed it--it won't dislodge Jetman as my favourite, but it has a really strong story and doesn't flinch from playing it out to the blackest possible conclusion. Also it was weird as hell in bits, but that really goes without saying. |

Episode 4 of Fiveman...I need more Fiveman in my life. This was fantastically insane. This episode features an Elephant that can turn water into liquor. Hilarity ensues as everything in the show gets drunk. I don't want to say anymore because it's something that is so insane it has to be seen for yourself. But if you must know...
The monster starts by getting kids drunk. Then Fiveman learns that it's not just the kids, but the whole town. This town includes 2 drunk nuns and a drunk dog. The Yellow Ranger gets drunk from the water as well. Through the course of the episode, it's revealed that the monster can change gasoline into liquor too. In the real world that makes no sense, but here it gets the cars drunk. There's more. Like all drinking episodes of Sentai, the drunk ranger can magically do drunken fist. This leads to a completely unmorphed with no stunt actors fight between Yellow and the monster. Yellow kicks major ass while drinking herself silly. There's still one more awesome bit. During the meagazord fight, Yellow is told to save the day by driving the Megazord while drunk. Not only do we have a drunken Megazord, but the moral of the day is just so great. You know, for kids! Seriously, Fiveman is going on my list of shows that need complete subs. Right under Kakuranger for now. |

You're in luck. GUIS announced the other week that they're about to start work on it.

I think, somehow, Zyuranger is weirder than MMPR 01 was. I didn't think thatw as humanly possible. Or that Zordon would somehow look normal. But they managed it.

The Dairangers too? Wow, Sentai was trippy during the earlier 1990s.

I wouldn't call Dairanger "trippy" as it's not weird as much as it is just mediocre with a lame ending. Dairanger is the least trippy of early 90's Sentai. If you want trippy try Fiveman, Zyuranger, and even Jetman. They're awesome that way.
