Except the advertising budget also needs to be recouped. But all in all, this is a good thing. Chances are good that, accounting for overseas sales over the weekend, the movie will end up in the realm of $125-150 million. That's pretty solid and probably enough to green light at least a follow up.

Even if it isn't, home video sales should take care of the rest. |

One thing to take into consideration. Power rangers marketing was rather limited compared to other big blockbuster movies and the budget was shared between LionsGate & Saban.

Not really. There were plenty of tv spots, trailers, and the Krispy Kreme promotion. (which granted would be largely mitigated by the pandering product placement in the film itself)

So... yeah, finally got to see it...
The criticisms I've had for all the designs are still valid, but they did so much else right... yeah, I'll let it slide for the most part. Billy is great, he's... he feels right. Like, whoever wrote this has actually dealt with high-functioning autists instead of just reading about them. I cringed but in sympathy... Yes, the Cramston story bit is very much something an aspie could conceivably do. Frankly, every second he was on-screen was a "Yeah, I could see myself doing something like that" thing. Everyone else wasn't AS good, but they filled the roles adequately. I think, in a lot of ways, the film actually hits on a lot of what the best Rangers seasons were also good about. Kind of like watching the MMPR storyline, but written more like RPM... Actually, yeah, RPM is probably the series I feel is most in-line with this, in both good and bad qualities. The character moments are spot-on, but the stunts and action are kind of weak at times. Also, I heard the phrase "The Power Rangers were a legion," which I'm going to take as meaning that there's more teams out there in the cosmos. If there's not some interaction with another Ranger team in the 3rd or 4th movie, please let it get at least as many sequels as Transformers, I'm going to be seriously disappointed. I don't even care about the details; I just want to see two teams contrasting with each other somehow. Basically, I liked it. I'm not going so far as some people and wanting it to replace the show or anything like that, but I'm completely okay with accepting this as a worthy part of the franchise. |

Yeah. PR's marketing was about on par with a summer blockbuster's.
I don't know the average amount marketing for a film costs, but PR did run the full gamut with multiple TV spots, trailers, and ad spots/posters everywhere. Additionally, from what I've learned, you need to double the cost in profits to actually start making money from the film. The remaining weeks in theaters and DVD sales will pull it off, though, considering the rate it's at.

Yep since making back the budget only means their effort was not a waste.

Hold up, I'm having trouble understanding what the budget actually covers, because I'm trying to wrap my head around why a film needs to make, as far as I can tell, a 100% profit margin in order to be considered profitable.
I mean, part of me says that can't possibly be right, but that's also the part that has way too much faith in humanity's intelligence. |
