Contemplating re-watching Gingaman.
I watched it long long ago(not 20th century), but recently got the urge to re-watch after so many years. That henshin soundtrack is awesome.

I've been watching each series in order all the way through (or all of the dubbed episodes) and thought it was quite a set up story and effects-wise. The villain factions (another parallel with Zyouhger) were also an effective way to keep things interesting throughout the series and were very distinct from each other. They even had a not very annoying kid sidekick. Of the series I've seen in full, this one is going to fall in the top half dozen I think. On to GoGoV |

Gingaman ep. 11
This my favorite episode so far. It's a Gouki focused and took me by great surprise. It's parents day at Yuuta's School and his dad can't make it because he's going over seas, so Gouki goes in his place, and ends up developing a crush on the teacher, Suzuko. Obviously you're not going to be able to develop some chemistry is as little as a single episode...but I gotta say, it kinda works. Goushi and by extension his actor, Teruhide Takahashi, really makes this episode. He's incredibly endearing and sweet. And while some of it is played for laughs, it's also pretty damn adorable. The scenes between him and Suzuko are pretty good for what they are, and again, really sweet to see and a bit humorous. Eventually get to the end battle and the city is in chaos. Really fantastic street level destruction which is always fun to see. Gouki is busy protecting Suzuko, and amidst the destruction she recolonizes an unconscious man in a wrecked car, and she randomly says the wedding is tomorrow, and watching it I'm just going "oh...they're gonna pull that." So of course Gouki rescues him (and a wedding dress!) then has to go help the rest of the team. Nice touch is Gouki is holding back tears while he's running and transforming. Then we get to the final fight, and Gouki is full of emotion and just slams into the MOW. Really good editing here, because after tackling the MOW we realize he's like 10 feet in a tree with the monster, and it was a super smooth transition. He twirls the monster around by his feet like Mario, slamming him into a tree, stabs him in the stomach. All while the amazing Ginga Tensei music is playing, which is so triumphant. Of course, monster grows, and out comes Gingarilla. I looove Gingarilla. Its always fantastic when you have a flexible enough suit which can do more then most sentai zords. So, Gingarilla runs in starting with a face slam, followed by a drop kick, then an amazing elbow drop. THEN he picks up the monster by the freaking head and swings him around, before finally forming Gingaioh and finishing it. It is amazing. So, finally at the end, Gouki is pretty torn up about Suzuko and all. But Yuuta comes along with some information. Turns out the man Gouki saved was her sister's fiancee. The smile that comes across Gouki's face is just adorable, almost child like in a way. This was a fantastic episode, and I absolutely love it. I didn't even mention the villains, particularly Sambash. He doesn't do a whole lot, but there's some hints of things to come, which I kinda already know about, but it's a nice touch. |

Started Go-Busters yesterday. Got up to Episode 4. I've never enjoyed watching anything Sentai-related so much! It's so good to me. Fun, smart & interesting. The characters actually feel important unlike most Sentai I've seen. This season gives off the feeling that it has a plan with its story instead of just making junk up as it goes along.
I was afraid that after getting into Kamen Rider & seeing how much better it is than Super Sentai that I wouldn't be able to like Sentai anymore. But thankfully I found Go-Busters. I actually freaking react to the show when things happen. I smile, I cringe, I get sad, I get hype. I tried Gaoranger, Boukenger, Shinkenger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Kyoryuger & Toqger. The only one of those I wanna continue is Toqger because of how quirky & goofy it is. I had to stop all of those other ones in the first arc because I didn't care enough about the characters or the story. Anyway, sorry for the long explanation. ^^; I just really like Go-Busters & hope to continue it soon. |

So I watched the first 4 episodes to Dynaman today. They were all right, but man, the episodes still feel like they are taking forever even when subbed. Every time the mech justs forming I feel like I should be starting the next episode. Hopefully this show improves once it is cut down to 17 minutes an episode.

I watched the first disc to Kakuranger today and god I love this show. For those curious, Shout uses a white font for the subs and the names are pretty much intact for all of the Youkai and stuff. The translations themselves are all pretty accurate, although the timing on the subs at the end of episode 5 are a little off for about three lines. So far though, everything is great. The discs remain to be identical to Toho's discs as far as video and audio are concerned, which is still of no surprise to me. Oh man though, their clothing, ugh. Someone forgot to hire a fashion manager for this show.

Cut them a little slack. Rebel culture was big in Japan at the time

When it comes to rebel culture, fashion is about breaking away from any norms possible. Standing out without looking like a total tosser. You want to break away from looking like another cog in the machine, but you also want to look tough and hip while doing so~ So double flannel and jean jackets with a bandanna is just the ticket, I guess
