For the people that have a hard time understanding why some of us are criticizing this new take on a Megazord, let me try to explain my viewpoint a bit. Just play along with me for a minute.
Imagine if Dino Thunder was the original show. The Megazord was composed of three dinosaurs (T-Rex, Triceratops, & Pteradon). Then years later, a movie comes along trying to 'reboot' Dino Thunder. They redesign the Megazord to look different. Still made of up 3 dinos, but the Pteradon gets replaced with a Stegosaurus. And the yellow ranger is now pink (cause it sells better to girls or something). But if you look at the two of these Megazords, you can see just as many similarities as differences. Both are mostly made up of the T-Rex with its head prominently on display. Aux zord becomes arm. Left arm has a drill attachment. Made up of Red, Blue, & Yellow colors. If a person who only casually had heard of Power Rangers was shown the second picture, they would instantly recognize that it is Power Rangers related. Now let's looks at MMPR vs Live Action. The departure is too radical. The only similarities are their horns and colors (the combiner toy has more coloring). If you showed this new toy to any layperson, no one would guess it belongs to Power Rangers. It's one thing to reimage the Megazord, but it is another thing to just say screw it and give us this. ESPECIALLY when they are still putting out TV shows that are still giving us toys in the same vein. Why depart from the franchise so hard when the franchise is still doing great as is? Why would the average person see this thing and think "Power Rangers"? In all honesty, the Live Action Megazord has more in common with a mech from Zone of Enders. Seriously, just look at it. Humanoid person just wearing kevlar and occasionally bits of body armor. No actual face. A few glowy bits. Some stubby wings. Thingys on the hips. A stabby arm blade. It's one thing to change something to make it more believable for live action and a general audience, and an entirely different thing to change something so much that it's no longer recognizable. Honestly, the combining of the zords is one of my favorite aspects of the franchise.. The fact that I could differentiate the zords when combined is one of the coolest features. But here they've just totally gotten rid of that. It's just another robot with trillions of shards of metal morphing into a shape that holds no bearing on what it had been before. It's just over complicated for the sake of being over complicated. Anyways. The only thing I like about this design for a megazord is the head.. Everything else just looks like generic garbage. I mentioned this on another forum, but it looks like ton of paper clips being picked up with a magnet. |

So...are they going to shout "Zord ON!" when they combine? I might forgive everything about this if they say that...LOL! |

I'd have to disagree with that. I couldn't care less what it's for. I think it's a bad looking design. Some people dig it, and that's cool for them, but it being the movie megazord has no influence on the appeal (or lack thereof) or the design. I have no emotional connection to MMPR as it is. I just think it's ugly and seems more like a bad knock-off than anything.

I don't know maybe agree to disagree. if it was all one color that wasn't shades of grey and silver I could see this as lead mech in an anime. well not with those feet but yeah I think the rest is solid. Honestly I like this design the head it cool I get a cockpit vibe from it, and I love mechs with wings. I think that might the biggest problem is it like Lucky said it doesn't feel like a Power Ranger/Sentai mech. On another note I am now sure that this image is not the final product that it is a promotional image of a uncolored prototype with photoshoped color. I make this claim mostly because as i photoshoped it i noticed a lot of color bleed on parts that shouldn't have that color like red on the wing from the shoulder. Though this is very minor. Another thing I noted was the hinges what is this toy going to do.

So you're saying if I was to remove the color which is the only way this is any way connected to Power Rangers this is a bad design for a mech.

I'm okay with it. It looks weird, but I have a feeling it'll look better once we see it in-movie.
I was hoping all along that they would simply take the idea of power rangers and do their own thing with it though, which they did, so I'm okay with the change. I wasn't looking for nostalgia, I was looking for a movie about 5 people who transform to fight monsters and get into a big robot to fight bigger monsters.

Good stuff but wrong show I think sums it up for this particular design. A shame really.
I know I have constantly said this feels like Ryukendo but maybe they should have saved this up for a Mystic Knights reboot or something.
