I mean, I guess I knew that, but that's why it's so weird to me Saban the person and Saban the business are treated like they're totally interchangeable.

Guess it's easy to hate the man when the names are the same.

Which is kind of funny, because the franchise was kind of a pet project of his prior to MMPR's debut.
Seriously, he originally pitched it using Bioman and he actually burst into the Jetman OP as part of the pitch that finally got off the ground. If I really wanted to be nasty/cynical I would say the hate is because he's a Jew. |

Yeah. It was changed to Zyuranger because it was the most current available Sentai and wouldn't look as dated.
However, I wouldn't really call it his pet project. He pitched it specifically because it would be a cheap and effective way to make more money. He designed it to intentionally be as cheap as possible. Some PR copycats would prove that it wasn't as cheap as we all thought, but you get the idea

I thought it was because Dinosaurs. Why try to sell birds to kids when you can offer the easy money that is dinosaurs? Besides, what does one year's difference really make for "dated" effects, especially for an annual weekly kid's show?
And what else am I supposed to call something that you push on for 7 years with no success? I'm not claiming that he was in it for any form of "artistic endeavor" but... well, what am I to call it? |

I don't think the change to Zyu had anything to do with the dinosaurs, though. Since I think he was just as willing to use Fiveman, too (Don't quite remember) And fair enough~

I suppose, I just found it weird to go from saying it was purely a cash grab to then start talking about decisions made for the sake of quality. Seemed like an odd juxtaposition of ideas there.

The idea itself was a cash grab, but Saban isn't a poor businessman. He'd choose the show with the highest quality because it'd probably yield a greater return.
They'd probably all cost the same to license, anyway. I dunno, though.
