Well, I was expecting something a little more detailed and dynamic. I'll probably check out the first couple of episodes to see how things settle, but the robot and the outfits are a little underwhelming. I have to agree with the sentiment that it looks like a bootleg sentai collection.

This is weird coming from me.. but I don't think it looks too great right now. Maybe it'll be better in action. But the suits and mecha are just...bland. And the tracks across the visor are a bit off putting. I'll still give it a chance, but I may not feel the desire to buy the toys that I've had in the past.

What sucks is that it seems they are packing in the aux mecha with the roleplay items, so you'd have to get all the extra stuff to get a full set of trains

I like helmets. Kinda looks like a knight's helm with the tracks like that. But that Mecha is just meh. There's no real creativity in how it's formed

I love those retro style suits but those train mecha are God alful. Their extremely dull looking and the combined mode looks ugly and lazy. Was really hoping for something along the lines of Grand liner/ super train megazord but I guess those days are gone...

The Suits
I want to like them. But they just don’t feel right to me. After having such dynamic suits after the last few years these don’t feel right. The helmets look pretty dumb and the rest of the suit body lack imagination in their design. Right now I’m feeling disappointed in the designs but I will reserve final judgment once I see them in action. The Weapons The sword/gun is ok. A little to bulky for my taste but I understand based on the gimmick. The individual weapons look like a completely recycling of Go-Onger. Red sword, blue blaster, green axe…but the yellow hammer and pink claw are cool. But the combined mode, while it shoots bullet trains, is nearly the same as Go-onger’s combined mode. The heck Bandai? |

I'm completely against this. I mean, I can see that they were going for a more simplistic style, but following the design complexity of everything from Gokaiger to Kyoryuger, these designs honestly look like someone spent about 5 minutes putting this together before it was presented.
Suits: I feel like these actually have a solid helmet design...until you get to the train track. If they would have left off the track, then these would have had a very cool Megaranger meets Boukenger feel to them (the angular design from Boukenger and the black casing with a lighted interior design like Megaranger). The more I look at them, I can see that they may have been going for a knight's helmet kind of look....but this is a really hard design choice to get behind. Also, if having a giant number on their helmets wasn't gaudy enough, they decided to put another one on each ranger's chest and circle it with, you guessed it, even more train tracks. Weapons: This is just a lazy copy-paste from Go-Onger. Not just the same weapons, but they even combine in the exact same way. Even if you liked Go-Onger's designs, theres no way that you can see this as anything other than laziness. Mecha: Before I even mention the zords, I'll finish talking about the weaponry...Once again, can anyone spot the Go-Onger weapon in this picture? You've got it, that mecha is holding a giant kankan bar. At this point, If the sixth ranger doesn't have a wing trigger, I'll be dissapointed. But about the mecha themselves: this is honestly one of the poorest designs in Sentai history. Aside from flipping down the front of red's train, there appears to be absolutely no transformation whatsoever. Its as if someone took the "snap together gattai" phrase from Kyoryuger and said "hey, I could make that more literal". And honestly, there isn't much more you can say about "TokkyuOh"...because there isn't anymore. Just 5 upright trains stuck together side by side. Oh, and red's train is upside down, there's that. For a minute I thought, "well maybe the auxiliary mecha might add something more interesting". Nope. Guess what guys? We're getting another limb-swapping gimmick. This is the point where I lost hope. I can understand trying to go for something simple, but simple doesn't have to mean lazy. These are horrible designs, so I get to use a horrible pun: this series looks like a train wreck. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Suddenly I no longer have the urge to see the costumes or the mecha (which looks like the inside of a crayon box more than a mech). I hope they look so much better on screen because I have nothing positive to say about them. Last edited by Dr Kain; 12-06-2013 at 09:21 AM.. |
