Christina Masterston is such a babe in real life, I find her weird make up and stuff in this show really off putting. Same with Ciara Hana.

As much as i like Roboknght his voice is so annoying. Is it bad when a Robot ranger shows more emotion than the Red ranger?

The opening is still bothering me, honestly. Not the music. The way they have to call out their names over it, like kids or us might forget their names or something.
Just like ShellSerpent needing to explain that he can give people back their shadows, forshadowing the fact it'll happen when he's destroyed. And RoboKnight asking if he's a Giant Snail. It just comes off as very obvious to the point of near patronizing. Gia leaned against the tree smiling though could've gone on for a couple extra scenes. Just saying. Also nice seeing Troy's acting hasn't improved. What is with Red Rangers recently? "This one will be hard to beat" sounded like someone doing a comedic impression of what a bad actor sounds like. Vrak though? His VO is becoming the Joy of this series. They really did well on that casting. Also didn't need the forced flirting between Emma and Troy in the juice bar. It couldn't have been less subtle if they tried. And it still bothers me that we keep Dynamic Victory Charge, the Japanese Cards, Gosei Great, yet Gosei Knight gets changed.. You anger me, Mister Saban. And one of the ads for Nick really ticks me off. They're going that national day of play things again, well and good. But they're going it on a Saturday.. Which means after only 2 weeks of new episodes, we skip one. So after six months of nothing we get two weeks? Thanks Nick, you suck again. RoboKnight doesn't need to say so much when he activates Knight Dynamic either. ... Alot is starting to bother me about this show. |

The characters calling their names out has been grating since they decided to do it in Samurai...

In only a matter of minutes, you're reminded you're watching Megaforce and for all the wrong reasons. Somehow the out of suit drama moments are even worse than they were on the first venture twenty years ago, how do you manage to construct an entire cast of talentless actors? With a cast so big, you think they'd find someone who could act. And if they know their actors are weak, why give them such terrible dialogue to force themselves through in awkward one to one conversations? A good director, and a good writer, could have easily gotten past the weaknesses of the actors, but I guess we didn't get those either as any moment that tries to tell the story or explore the characters is painful.
Still, even with all of that in mind, there is something so utterly charming about this episode. So utterly...Power Rangers. It's so goofy and stupid and throws logic to the wall, and I really think you'd have to be the biggest Scrooge in the world to not be entertained by it. I mean this weeks episode is about a snail with the power to steal people's shadows, how do the Rangers combat this? They stay in the shade. That isn't the only odd little quirk to resurface and to enjoy. Gia is still licking her lips at Roboknight...for no reason whatsoever in a joke that is as hilarious in its randomness as it is in you asking why they included this in a kids TV show and while the Ranger's aren't battling snails (sorry, serpents) with the power to steal shadows, they are teaching a killer robot about friendship. And what do they get when they do manage to teach him about friendship? A giant frickin' robot. Could you imagine how great the world would be, if it functioned on that logic? The Goseiger footage, stripped of angels with playing cards, continues to be really entertaining as well. As far as Sentai goes, the production values are big and it makes the Rangers feel suitably powerful for an anniversary season and their confrontations big and epic to fit it as well. Even in your average of the week episode like this. Speaking of Roboknight, he is really cool, isn't he? Stupid sound effects and bad voice acting aside, there is something really awesome about this sentient machine standing alone on the rooftops, looking out across the world, waiting for evil to surface so it can destroy it. I think the show does a really great job of really capturing who Roboknight is (certainly much better than the other characters) but it also goes into a surprising amount of depth with his internal turmoil of incredible loneliness and deep confusion of the human condition. So yeah, overall, a pretty damn great return for Megaforce!

Gah, this episode REALLY made me want a hot dog
Anyway, its great to see this show back and I really enjoyed the episode. I think Robo Knight's voice is brilliant - hearing what would otherwise be emotional lines like "Don't worry, your parents will be okay" or whatever in this completely deadpan voice really sells me on that the fact he's a robot. This episode also had lots of little things I liked, such as the mutants genuinely believing the Warstar have teamed up with them and Vrak obviously doing things behind their backs. Broken record I know, but the card thing really should have been sorted out - the ground/grand thing is probably the worst instance of them all.
