Except the Watchdogs in Season 1 were always dicks, so they're betrayal wasn't completely out of the question. Raiga's boss seemed reasonable, and Ryume actually has the decency to come and fight alongside everyone.

Except Ryume isn't a watchdog though. Everything I've seen elsewhere says she's a Makiai Priest. A very high level one who apparently very old but looks young mind you, but still a Priestess. Granted she's in the watchdog role for the show but she hasn't been acting like the ones we seen previously. She's not giving them orders, even though she letting them know where the threats are. She giving Ryuga and Rain more information than any of th watchdog seen previously. Even when she made the requet that Ryuga and Rain look into thngs when Radan first got unsealed she apologized for potentionally putting them in danger. Acting more like a freind thana superior.

Just caught episode 17. Things are really getting exciting. Zinga and Amiri's backstory was interesting and definitely not what I expected (although it was really obvious what was going to happen to Yuuto the minute they left him in the village). It's nice to finally know what their deal is, even if it came at the expense of Daigo and Gald being totally gullible morons.
The Ryume vs. Zinga fight was really cool. She was more than holding her own in the one-on-one. |

Ep 17.
I really like the Over-Time link's name to the raw: "The Decade show feat. Garo" Well, exposition was expected at some point about Zinga and Amiri. What wasn't expected was indeed that the script needed Ryume go solo, Gald and Daigo being idiots there, that was one peculiar way to handle the mirror's power, the trap she set for Ryuuga will turn against Zinga as the mirror will be obviously broken. From a story point of view, it would have lacked excitement to kill a chained Amiri, a girls only cat fight with Rian and Ryume is certainly to happen. My suspension of disbelief was more than hurted in this episode, because my brain kept screaming "None of you make sense, you idiots !" and my suspension of disbelief is already calibrated for tokusatsu stuff, where giant robots are powered by power of imagination and frienship.

GARO Gold Storm Shou Episode 17: So no surprises here for me with Jinga and Amily being the ones that killed Haruna and Gald's village however I am totally not pissed off at Jinga and Amily. The villagers were the assholes who murdered their son they had no right to do that, and in hindsight if they didn't do that then the monster would have been defeated and they all wouldn't have died. Still totally like Jinga and Amily's evil origins and intrigued with the dark mirror too. I like how Ryuuga, Daigo, and Gald are all having to hold each other back because they all have similar anger problems. I have no problem with Ryuuga taking care of the darkness in the Mirror; hell the title of the last show makes this no problem for the One Who Shines in Darkness. Ryume is an asskicker and my favorite Watch Dog right now, since she actually does stuff to help out Ryuuga. This definitely feels very close to the end. I wonder how they are going to stretch for another couple episodes? I can't wait for more.

Yeah, this felt far more like episode 23/24 than 17. This is getting the usual 25-episode Garo run, right? Makes me wonder how insane this is going to get once Ladan actually appears, what it's going to look like, what it does...
I bloody knew once Amily started "helping" this was going to end with Japanese Morticia turning on them. To be fair, her and Decade are the most sympathetic villains in a Garo series to date. The others just wanted power (I don't count Eiji because he hadn't truly fallen to darkness, he was just so grief-stricken he thought releasing the "Tears of Messiah" would help). If a bunch of stupid villagers killed your kid, you'd massacre them all too. Sounds less like I initially thought with them, though. I thought with the way Zinga talked about becoming a Horror early on, that he actively sought to become one. The way his backstory was explained here, sounds more like two people accepting the consequences of what they did in their rage, and reigning themselves to their fate of becoming Horrors. Ryume fighting was awesome. I actually quite liked that they essentially went a whole episode without any knights using their armour. TOWSITD did that once or twice, but it came off better here. Talking of priests fighting, this made me want another Tougen no Fue-style film/special. I hope the Bikku movie pulls that vibe off. I wonder was the thing is that Ryuga is going to be fighting though - tried looking at the few frames of it in the preview, could it be a blackened Lost Soul type of thing? This episode, as with every other episode this season, made me sad when I reached the end, because then I knew I'd have to wait a week for the next one. That to me is the mark of something is good. |

You know, for a minute there I actually thought they were going to pull it off, even with everybody conveniently ignoring Amiri. In the end, though, it was obvious that Ladan was going to awaken and lead to the big final battle. I didn't see Rian getting her soul sucked out, though. That was a surprise.
Speaking of surprises, holy crap the black armor is back. I'm not entirely sure what it is now, but it seems to be more of a power-up than a downgrade (and one I want a Figuart of - with cape - now). And it's obviously a thing Ryuga can turn on and off. Like I said, I don't entirely get what its purpose is, but it looks damn cool. This was a really good episode. |
