Uncle Mario has finally learned the secret of the Zyuohgers. Can Yamato keep fighting now??

At such a late stage in the show, a recap episode is kind of unfortunate. That being said, it felt like a nice sort of calm before the storm episode, allowing the characters some final peace and quiet before the final four episodes. And as Mario has been a great supporting character thus far, I don't really mind the framing device used. As recap episodes go, there was still a fair bit of interesting plot stuff addressed, too, so there's that.
Things are really gonna get going starting next episode...so I assume the dad and Azald plots are gonna get wrapped up in the next two episodes and then dealing with Genis will be the last two. Should be fun. |

I love this episode because Mario is just great and I'm happy that they finally revealed their secrets to him, and I'm kinda surprised how interesting Azald is all of a sudden, but a clip show this late into the game? Hm. |

Eh, Gingaman did a clip show this late, too. At least Zyuoh doesn't drop their clip show between 2 titanic events, so it doesn't feel like a breaking halt.
The episode was fine. There were some surprisingly relevant events and it was more than just the Zyuohgers talking about their past exploits while sitting around the table. Azald is suddenly getting focus, which is nice, and the next episode preview has me pretty pumped. I just wish they paced things a little better. Being so close to the finale, I don't think the show's interest in Azald will last. They probably should've had Kubar's big plan a little earlier, so Azald could've had more time for development so the final arc could basically be all Genis. At the rate we're moving, Genis's big end will probably be all of 2 episodes. Zyuoh Human is amazing and I love it. I'm glad that Mario finally gets filled in on everything. He brings a lot of charm (Ironic, considering I initially thought I'd hate him). Also, Larri brings up that Bard might not be able to handle being a Zyuohger, so I'm wondering if that's gonna go anywhere. Anyway, next episode brings Yamato's dad back and we get more on their relationship. I can't wait~

Is it bad that the one thing I am looking forward to most is Mario talking with LARRY!!!?

Ninninger had a recap episode right before the final stretch too. I can't remember other shows off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure this is a fairly normal thing for Sentai. It's likely to help save some budget up for the big climactic endgame stuff.
And as recap episodes go, this was great. Mario has always been a delight (especially how his wackiness never conflicts with his ability to actually get *serious*), so it was cool to see him get the credit he deserves. Ranger Key when, Bandai? Maybe part of the reason I'm so satisfied with this episode is because seeing all those old clips actually reminded me how much I really have enjoyed Zyuohger. It was this kind of feeling of like "oh, I remember that! That was a great episode!" throughout that made the whole thing surprisingly enjoyable. Zyuohger's been really knocking it out of the park with this last stretch so far and I think this episode is no exception. There's even all sorts of Plot progression stuff going on in it. On that note, I'm really kind of amazed how much payoff we've been getting on all these seemingly innocuous things lately. The show is even teasing that's Bard's changer being a different color actually means something beyond Bandai getting to pretend it's a different toy. That's nuts. Either Zyuohger has deceptively great long-term planning, or they're extremely good at making stuff up as they go along. Either scenario is pretty impressive.

I think we'll see a Zyuoh Human Ranger Key the day we get White Racer and Shinken Brown keys
(I initially started that as a joke, but now I honestly think I'd buy them)

Forget that, they should just bring the man to the next Power Morphicon and have a legion of fans dressed in the Zyuoh Human t-shirt because fandom.

Pre-End Game clip shows has always been a tradition in Super Sentai, But this made sense in a story perspective as it's mostly to bring Mario up to speed on what's been going on since he discovered their secret. I find it a bit amusing that it has sprinkles of plot in it, just to troll the audience into not turning it off just because it's a clip show.

ANOTHER clip show!! We just had a clip show not too long ago with the fake Leo and Sela. UGH!!
I turned it off right after they started to tell Mario about their battles. EDIT: BTW, most of the Sentai series have a clip show as the New Year's episode. Gingaman - I believe Gekiranger. |
