That went over well. As for the new show, I'm digging it. As someone who despised the "Tonka Toy look" of Kyuryuger, this is most definitely a welcomed team. |

If this bombs, what happens? Total erasure of the franchise? Toei breaks with Bandai and goes to Takara for designs and ideas? Toei and Bandai stop coming-up with ideas and wait for Hasbro to do something ingenious with P.R. and wait to port that over instead, thereby reversing over 25 years of standard practice!?!?
Toei's doing fine, and Bandai Japan is fine as well. No one is "suffering" yet. Quote:
I think you people have your worries reversed. Either this show really goes against the mold and surprise us, but also causes Sentai to go on a break for a bit. Or it sticks to as tried-and-true to formula as possible to make an unremarkable show, but ensuring that Sentai keeps going on.
It's my own selfishness that wishes for the former, as someone who really enjoyed the ambitions that Kyuranger and LuPat had, despite the flaws both those shows have. Wouldn't it just be more exciting or cooler in the long run to see how Sentai would come back after being quiet for a while, like the the beginning of Heisei Riders or New Generation Ultraman? Well, it's just a fantasy in my head for now. Quote:
Right now, the bigger issue is needing to restructure a different area that impacts all three companies. |

Yeah this show doesn’t look too inspiring. I hope it ends up better than it looks, but it really might benefit Sentai in the long run to take a break and reinvent itself.
I do like the fact that the pink got an ankylosaurus mech, that’s refreshing.

I'm surprised we got another Dinosaur theme Super Sentai theme so soon. I was hoping that the Knights theme rumor would have been real.

Maybe they wanted to do Kyoryuger again but this time no Red-centric, as in, properly do Kyoryuger as it should?
Hahahahahahahah no. Sentai will always be Red Ranger and his Bitches show now. LuPat and Zyuohger got lucky because the Reds are likeable and written better.

Zyuohger was an anniversary season and didn't do well. They'd need to do a Gokaiger mk2 in order to really get an anniversary boost nowadays, but creating something like that again would have its own issues.

Holy socks, I was totally wrong about that leaked list being a fake.
Mecha-wise, the muting of the candy colors suggests that this Sentai will try to pitch to slightly older kids, which would make sense given the earlier time slot. It's still aimed at kids, but maybe a year or two older. The base mecha being a complete robot means the whole thing feels more cohesive. has a cool Go-Buster Ace thing going on. I can certainly see the mecha selling better. Many recent mecha have felt like an afterthought, either in their standalone or limb modes. Another thought: the type of arm-switching we've seen for the last couple of Sentai is gone. Y'know, the thing where something is stuck to the side of the torso to make a largely-unconvincing arm? What we've got now are attachments to plausible arms. (Yeah, the more I think about it, the "knight" element is definitely the armor the main mecha wears.) The individual suits look like Dekaranger and Kyuranger had a baby. OMG ARE THERE HOLSTERS ON THE BELTS WHAAAAAT So I guess after several successive unsuccessful experiments with the format, they're now going back to the safest thing they can imagine? I can only think Kyoryuger Brave prompted Toei to revisit the dino well prematurely. Last edited by Tokumonkey; 12-07-2018 at 02:52 PM.. |
