Looks like gemn corp subbed it first again like with all those non super hero time. It's an alright episode. Nothing too dark, but the tone is more serious akin to early heisei era with the lack of trust in the adult world. Kido is back being 03 version naive happy dude instead of Zio's version persona wise. 3/10 riders down. Femme replaced by abyss. Only ohja remembers everything. When was the last time the police are involved in fighting the villains?

I know you probably mean "outside" the mirror world, but I just like imagining a perfectly normal seen of like people talking while thru the windows you can see Another Ryuki murdering people.

It's weird seeing Shinji willing take part in the Rider War when in the OG series, he spent a lot of time not wanting to take part.

Man, they even brought out the OG soundtrack for this one...it really is like watching a continuation of the series.
Also, they totally got me with Tezuka's betrayal. Part of me had a feeling that was the case, but Tezuka was one of the few unambiguously "good guy" Riders from the original show, so I was thinking "Surely, Tezuka won't be a massive prick!" I also got to say that I love the idea of Goro taking up the Zolda mantle after Kitaoka's (likely) death.

Tezuka is never wrong when it comes to his fortune telling though, I would not be surprised if this suddenly ended with him going the path that lets them escape.
He already knows if his method will work or not if they are using the rules of the old character. As for Kitaoka, he had cancer (( I think... )) before the war, so it would still kill him I assume. |

As a big fan of Ryuki, I was really excited for this special. After watching the first episode, I'm not totally sold on it yet.
One one hand, I loved how much it felt like Ryuki from a production standpoint. It's great to hear all the sounds and music again, and they did a good job of capturing the atmosphere of the original season. Seeing a lot of the old characters back was great too, I would have liked to see Kitaoka again but otherwise can't complain. All of my other favorites are back with Shinji, Asakura, and Tezuka (Kind of...more on that shortly). And even though Kitaoka isn't here it's nice to have Goro in his place. On the other hand I felt that the pacing was extremely rushed, it just kind of drops the audience in the middle of the situation, gives minimal backstory, and then several characters are already dead by the time it's over. And they were complete nobodies, so it doesn't really feel like there's any emotional weight to the deaths. They just existed to inflate the death count. I don't want to hold these problems against it too much though because it's just a 3-part special, so they understandably have to cram a lot into those three episodes. I can live with that. The bigger issue I had is the characterization of some of the original cast, particularly Tezuka. While I think there's a strong chance he isn't actually a villain and his actions here are part of a larger plan, I still don't like the way it was handled. Betraying his allies and straight up murdering one of them is just not even remotely consistent with what his personality should be. He's not really the type to set up a fake-out betrayal plot to begin with, let alone one that involves killing someone. And of course there's still the possibility that he isn't faking the betrayal, which would just ruin his characterization even more. I just really disliked this portrayal because in the original show he was the only other kind-hearted, genuinely good person besides Shinji, and it sucks to see that so messed up. So right now my feelings are pretty mixed, but I'm hoping it will improve with the remaining two episodes and maybe negate some of my initial criticisms if it handles the rest of the story well.

Well, at the same time these guys are technically not the original characters, since time was rewritten the original events did not really happen.
And the movie ending created another situation of timeline erased which was used in Zi-O for Ryoga. So, not really the same people we knew overall, gotta love wacky time shenanigans. But yeah, with a 3 episode count it is going to have to rush a few parts, for now I am giving Tezuka the benefit of the doubt, I wonder how the Zi-O crew will work into this, with Another Ryuki out and about they might require the Ryuki watch, but at the same time they have been shown flat out killing the Another with pure power so, difficult to say. |

Of course there's still two episodes to go so I'm hoping that it will be addressed in a way that makes sense, but it just doesn't sit right with me so far.
