Honestly wasn't super wowed by this, felt like a much weaker debut than X, Orb and Geed. That said it was fun, and after some of Geed's heavier themes maybe a bit of fun is what the franchise needs?
The two leads were pretty good though, and its got a unique dynamic that hopefully I'll get behind more. I just hope they shave that transformation sequence down quickly because it lost its appeal far too quickly.

To note, the english captions were created by fans
This basically describes the situation going on now. https://twitter.com/darklugiel/statu...08650408779776 But yeah first episode was an "Ehhh it's okay" though I am sure it will get better. Also calling it now the villain is either the mother or the scientist that is all over the town and on tv. |

Like, unless you count the crystals on him being a light blue which would literally be called "water color" (水色) in Japanese? Other than that I've got nothing. I honestly think they just wanted to use Ginga to balance out the old-school factor of Taro. Yeah, that's about where I am with R/B right now. It's not blowing me away just yet, but I think that after a show about a depressed space hobo (sorry Gai) and a show about a kid confronting his fate as the son of the most evil guy in the universe, an attempt to inject a bit more lightheartedness than usual into Ultraman is entirely warranted.

That's actually kind of common. SRT files and sub files have always been legal. It's the distribution of the video file that's not. There were a lot of legal groups that do fansubs because all they provided were the SRT file or sub text file and the end user had to procure the raw on their own to use the sub file with. (Though that may have since changed, this was back in the mid to late 2000s. I'm sure some of those SRT providers may still be around though.)
Fans have always been welcome to translate and make subs. The sharing of the raw video file though is still piracy. So it looks like Tsuburaya found a middle ground to do it easier. Though this does mean little to no typesetting effects. As those can't be done with an SRT with on the fly processing as yet. Which means no karaoke effects either. I had fun watching it. It wasn't amazing but it was pretty alright!
The past Ultras on the crystals is kind of annoying because it seems so unnecessary. Ginga = Water doesn't even make sense. |

God forbid we have a hero that's just his own thing and not explicitly based on one or more old characters. |

On the subject of the R/B crystals, why do you guys think they chose Ginga for Ultraman Blu's primary crystal. I mean, Ultraman Taro make sense. This is his 45th anniversary and he uses a lot of fire based attacks... but Ginga? Ultraman Ginga uses a lot of different elements in his attacks but water isn't one of them. What connection to water does he have other then his blue color? The entire situation is made even stranger when you remember that this is also Ultraman Gaia's 20th anniversary. AKA, the anniversary of the first Ultraman season to have two Ultras in the spotlight instead of one. AKA, the season that has not only a red Ultra with an earth motif, the element that often represents fire in addition to land, but also a blue Ultra... with a sea motif. I hope they're planning on doing something special with Gaia and Agul's crystals because otherwise I have no idea how they missed such an obvious connection.
P.S. Despite my complaints above, I really enjoyed this first episde. |

I liked it, it was fun. I like that they weren't immediately proficient fighters and the one brother kept hitting the other brother by accident.
I did like the moment where he's like, "Jeez this kid just wont listen." ..and they all stood there looking at each other for a pause before resuming the fight. They mystery of the disappearing Wife/Mother has me curious. Looking forward to seeing more. |

There are a couple of fan theories that make sense, but only in a "we really wanted a water element and this is how we justify it" sorta way. The word "Ginga" has an alternate Kanji for "River" in it. Ginga's color is light blue, which in Japanese has the kani for "water" in it.
