Guess who's back to the Super Sentai Series? It's Seiju Umon a.k.a. Aohisa Takayasu (Sharma Tribe Knight Goushi/MammothRanger), who was last seen in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger in 2012 and was last heard in Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Vs. Go-Busters: The Dinosaur Great Battle! Farewell, Eternal Friends in 2014-both as Goushi! And this time, he played Sayo's martial arts master. For Mio Kudou, Mr. Umon is like a father to her when it comes to the generation gaps. Losing your memories and acting like a preschooler is not new to the Super Sentai Series. I wonder what will be the Super Sentai reference this time aside from ZyuRanger's actor Mr. Umon, who will be 53 years old on May 2, 2020?

I don't know what to say, but I'm enjoying this more than Zero One. I think Zero One is just getting to samey for me.

Just a quick thing, The way Sayo both loses and regains her memories would kill a person.

Okay, so, straight up, I was ready for this episode to be terrible. The premise is the kind of thing that just, immediately sounds cringe-worthy the second you hear it, and to top it off, it's the first episode not written by Arakawa.
Which is why I'm so shocked to say this might be my favorite episode yet? The actual premise of "Sayo gets her face smashed into a rock and has TV amnesia", I mean, it's dumb, but everything the episode does with it is so smart. This is a jam-packed episode featuring our obligatory "trapped inside the monster" plot for the season, and just, loads of great character moments for everybody. Shiguru and Sena get the most minor role, but Sena's still her usual adorably peppy self, and Shiguru gets that great line about needing to ask his agency to have his photo taken, so they aren't totally left in the dust. Sayo herself, the episode does that same thing from last episode I like to see of giving us some flashbacks to see why a character is the way they are. Seeing the characters as children is great! Combined with the shtick of having proper occupations, it's continuing to make the Kiramagers feel more like real people than most Sentai teams in recent memory, keeping the show grounded enough despite the cartoonish atmosphere. It's striking a fantastic balance, and, I've gotta be honest, it legitimately pretty エモい the way the plot was perfectly structured so that it came down to Sayo right at the end. Like, it just builds to that moment pefectly by sidelining the flying Machines, and then getting rid of Tametomo and Juuru. It was immensely satisfying. Speaking of Tametomo and Juuru: they're great here too! They both get a roughly equal amount of time devoted to showcasing their respective leadership talents, with Tametomo doing all the logical planning, and Juuru handling the emotional connections the team needs to work. I think this episode validated Juuru a bit easier than usual, which might be a problem for some, but, within the context of the episode, I think it worked fine, and that respectful fist bump between him and Tametomo was just awesome. It's worth mentioning this episode was written Ayumi Shimo, who seemingly popped out of nowhere last year to write some generally quite good episodes of Ryusoulger, and if this kind of quality is standard for her, she can write as many episodes of this show as she wants for all I care, because they'll all be awesome.

Did someone say, "trapped in a photograph dimension"? That reminds me of JetMan Episodes 13 and 14 where nearly all of the JetMen (except Ryuu Tendou/Red Hawk) and other victims were trapped in a photograph dimension by the Camera Dimension way back in 1991 (when cameras were filled with film). So far, we have JetMan (photograph dimension), ZyuRanger (MammothRanger/Sensei), CarRanger (Pink Racer pose) and ToQger (acting like a preschooler) references.

I don't know about this one honestly. I don't like that in Sayo's first focus episode, she's not even actually herself for the entire thing. Especially disappointed because the parts I look forward to in these kinds of episodes is seeing the focus character have more extended and down-to-earth interactions with the rest of the cast.
Worst still, it wasn't even because of a wacky monster power, but because of the most ridiculous case of aforementioned TV amnesia I've ever seen. I'm glad Land Mage and Sky Mage still get to do things instead of always going for the big combination though (I still expect them to disappear entirely as we go further into the series). |

Shigeru's line of having to contact his agency to be allowed to photograph him was easily my favorite moment of this episode.
That aside, it was basically what I anticipated from an episode where a character gaining amnesia. Even worse, unlike Gekiranger, we weren't even granted a child KirameiPink (Though her roll call was cute). This episode was nothing special, but eh.

Best episode of the show so far! I thought Sayo was pretty adorable when she was acting like a kid. Interesting how the others gave up on restoring her memory until Mabusheena was fortunate (or unfortunate since that probably hurt for Sayo) enough to headbutt her. Mabusheena headbutting people looks like it might become a recurring joke. It's for the best though since there's only so much a 5 year old can do, which probably doesn't include miracle surgery.
Juru also had some good focus here, using Sayo's trigger to create a similar scenario from her backstory and give her the courage she needed to save them. He has a great role as a motivator, supporting his teammates' dreams and helping them sparkle. He reminds me of Kou and Juyong in that way, aware of their collective strengths as a team and encouraging them to be their best.
