A fun topic that seems to spark a lot of conversation on the TokuNation.com Forums is the ratings of both Kamen Rider Wizard as well as Go-Busters. As we've previously mentioned, Go-Busters is on pace right now to be the lowest rated Super Sentai series of all time, doing even worse than OhRanger, which was the previous all time record holder for worst television ratings ever.

And don't forget that Kamen Rider Fourze was abysmal in the ratings department, but the show managed to save face if only because of outstanding merchandise sales for the Fourze Driver and the various switches.

So how did the shows do this week?

Kamen Rider Wizard posted a 7.8% rating, up from it's premiere of 7.1%. This single episode of Kamen Rider is the highest rated episode since Episode 12 of Kamen Rider OOO. That's November 2010 for those of you keeping track.

Go-Busters pulled in a 5.2%, tying the series high set back on Mission 08. This can be creditted both to the fact that more people are watching Kamen Rider Wizard and, just maybe, the fact that Go-Busters is doing a unique "shake-up" ... a new intro, a new theme song, and apparently a new main villain. And to quote some of our users here that are still watching, "What is this!? There's an actual STORY in Go-Busters?!"

It'll be interesting to see how this coming weekend's numbers look. Will Kamen Rider Wizard continue to move up, breaking the 8.0% mark? Will Go-Busters reclaim some respect and adoration, or is it destined to be the worst rated Super Sentai of all time?

I don't understand the "There's a Story in Gobusters?!" mentality. It's only 29 episodes in and things are getting serious. and I personally didn't feel it was idling for all that long. Gokaigers plot involved the ranger sitting around waiting for new powers or sometimes looking briefly for them while this armada sat in orbit and did very little until the Finale'....

And I liked Gokaiger, but I don't see how story wise they succeeded in a way Go-Busters has failed.

If you wanna blame something on the Ratings, blame the lousy toys and horrible combined Mecha. but don't blame the story.

I have to disagree.

Gokaiger's plot centered around a bunch of space pirates who, through the course of 51 episodes, go from not giving a damn about Earth to realizing what exactly these powers represent that they're collecting, and decide to destroy the sure-fire "SAVE EVERYONE EVER" device to do things the Super Sentai way.

In the first 20 episodes, Gokaiger gave us the Zangyack Empire and their desire to conquer the Earth, while the Gokaigers stop them as they are trying to find the Ultimate Treasure. It gives us Gai, the 6th member of the team who first has to prove his worth to join them, and then show them through his knowledge of the Super Sentai exactly how humble they should be with these heroes. We're also introduced to Basco, a side-villain who by series end, is almost more threatening and interesting than the very Zangyack Empire the series focused around in the first place.

Not to mention the character developments of Marvelous (his relationship with Basco and AkaRed), Joe (and his struggle to come to terms with Sid), and Luka (her thievery ways being a result of a failed attempt to save the life of her little sister). And their hatred of the Zangyack for what they did to them whether directly or indirectly.

All while showcasing 35 years of Super Sentai history in the battles and involving the past heroes in the current on-going story.

Tell me again what Go-Busters has done in the first 29 episodes?

Well I don't disagree necessarily with anything you've said, but Gokaiger showed those progressions very quickly sprinkled amongst larger stretches of little more than getting a new power (with the exception of Joe I'll grant you)

Gobuster, to me, in 29 episodes have shown us a group of people who have devoted 13 years of thier life to a goal, to protecting earth, to stopping this AI and on a more personal note, rescuing their friends and family who in all likelihood are long since dead.

We have seen a brother and sister come to terms with two radicly diffrent ideologies, we've seen people learn to grow past thier weaknesses both personal and resulting from their role as Rangers. (The scene were a guy off-handly comments that Ace alone requires 50 technicians round the clock to keep running, and how that effected Hiromu)

We've seen hope then spring up as Jin returns from Hyperspace showing that at least in some way thier families could still be alive. We've seen the villians infighting and putting up with Messiah for reasons only they know, which Is interesting since Enter clearly gets annoyed with Messiah, it's not blind devotion.

We see subtle hints of things that enter in episodes later, like the issue with the name of Escapes guns. And we get planning and resource managment scenes as they have to deal with a newer type of weekly monster.

And some SUPER sexy monsters.

Now that said sure the Mecha when combined are ugly as sin and thier weapons are kinda lame, so I'm not saying it's perfect. and I'm not saying Gobuster is BETTER than Gokaiger. but for the life of me I just cannot understand where this .... Hostility comes from.....and least theres no anthropomorphic pachinko machine....

I think the story in Go-Busters has moved relatively slow, but there's always been a prevalent storyline there. Gokaiger had a larger and (in my opinion) a more dynamic cast. Go-Busters for the earlier part had a smaller main ranger cast and when more than one of the characters wasn't that great (Hiromu and Yoko), the show suffered because of it.

Also you need to bare in mind that if you take away all the crossover and anniversary elements of Gokaiger, there really isn't that much to write home about. I loved Gokaiger and its my favourite Sentai series I've seen, but I fully acknowledge that it was predominately fanwank.

One thing I feel that Gobusters has over Gokaiger is just how fantastic the mecha battles are, well...except for when Great Gobusteroh appears on screen.

In later episodes of Gokaiger, the mecha battles became a real chore to sit through.
