I just watched this and I had one over-whelming feeling. Are they serious with this movie or is it meant as a joke. Because I'm hoping it was meant as a joke. This movie.. my god this movie was godaweful. From the Big-Lipped Samurai Robot that somehow steals DNA by kissing, to the cheap robot cycle thing. Just... my god.

Just finished watching it a it ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. As far as parodies go, I don't think it's quite on the same level as Akibaranger, but it's pretty clever in its own right.
The one major issue is that while I felt like the director was shooting for an Edgar Wright-type spoof, where, while it's definitely silly, there are still moments you can take seriously. A "have your cake and eat it too" mentality towards spoofing. However, the sense of humor was way too goofy for me to take any of those bits seriously. That's assuming that's what they were going for. It may have just been a straight up loving parody, in which case, it succeeds quite well. The gags hit more than they miss, and the love the director has for the old Showa shows really shines through. When they showed a full-on hand-drawn bumper card at the halfway point, I'll admit, I squeed. Although probably my favorite gag was doing a "new gadget/weapon" montage for insulin.
